Anyone ever heard of dissociation or DID? It's like when I'm talking about "me" and I'm saying "me" that I'm not really talking about myself. I daydream a lot, which is a compulsive habit that I am afraid I can't stop. I daydream so much that I am sure disconnected from myself. Sounds stupid, but assuming I'm telling the truth, what should I do about the problem.
Anyone have this problem EVER?! 2/14/2007 9:28:09 AM |

Yes, that's a classic, common symptom of anxiety and panic disorder. Go to the doctor and get some medicine. 2/14/2007 9:29:31 AM |

What if I have been dissociated since a very young age? Meds sound good, but I'm already to the point where I can barely get up in the morning. I sound lazy, but I can't really be anything more because I don't see the point in doing things that I can't even pay attention to me doing. Life is simple, but the dialogue in my head makes it so damn hard to concentrate or to actually BE HERE 100%. It's totally fucked my relationship with anyone, including my parents.
I have always been reclusive, FAR TOO introspective (to the point of pointlessness), and now I have what people refer to as the 1000yd stare.
Is there anything besides meds that I could try? 2/14/2007 9:39:53 AM |

Yeah, therapy, and lots of it.
And it sounds like you need to look into it ASAP:

Lauren Seabolt is a badass therapist, and deals with DID. You might look her up and see if she can help or give you some pointers on getting started. 2/14/2007 9:55:57 AM |

sounds like my ex bf.... he got on anti-anxiety for a while....then off of it and started talking to an AADD expert, who said he's just got severe ADD mixed with some anxiety, so she started him back on ADD meds...now I don't know what he's doing or if he even followed up...2/14/2007 11:04:39 AM |

they aren't even in the same category of disorders, but definitely aren't exclusive, and often go hand in hand. That's why I didn't say anything 2/14/2007 12:19:19 PM |

I appreciate youze guyzes advice A LOT. If a major symptom of DID is "zoning out" then I have a real diagnosis. It's like I can't get out of my head. People will sit down to talk to me and slowly or quickly, It's like a voice in my head says that I'm not really here, and sure enough, I lose it. Then i feel like i'm looking through a camera that's mounted on my neck and there's no brain that takes what I see to process it. I look like a fucking retard most of the time i hang out with people. My heart pounds and people say my face will turn white, and all i might be doing is hiking up a road or something. 2/14/2007 4:54:19 PM |

go to a counselor and talk to them, you dont want to get diagnosed by the wolf web
DID used to be called Multiple Personality Disorder (and still is by the ICD), i doubt thats what you are talking about. unless i misread something you were talking about anxiety and dissociative tendencies, a counselor can help you with these things and may even recommend seeing a psychiatrist for treatment with medication. if this is bothering you just go to the counseling center and talk to someone. 2/14/2007 5:17:04 PM |

i used to feel kind of disconnected from myself at times like what you were saying, probably not to the same extent though. Some simple SSRIs gave me a little bit of help 2/14/2007 5:36:29 PM |

ive had problems with concentration in the past but like anything else you have to try and try hard then at some point after lots of hard work you do something right then you can build on that. 2/14/2007 9:10:39 PM |

it sounds like a mild form of a dissociative disorder. I should say that these types of disorders typically get worse with time. 2/14/2007 9:18:33 PM |

I found out what happened. I've been dissociating since I was three because I had an abusive moment with one of my parents. My parents deny everything, but for a moment, I stopped dissociating and finally relaxed around some of my friends as an effort to come back to reality. I'm certain I was sexually abused and learned to dissociate as a way to cope.
What should I do? I'm still dissociating hardcore, no one believes that I've dissociated for 20 years (or even believes dissociation is possible) even though all evidence in my psychological history points to sexual abuse. 3/2/2007 8:42:17 AM |

please go to the student counseling center, and they will most likely forward you on to a psychotherapist off campus. you desperately need to see a qualified professional ASAP.
seriously, go down there or call or something. http://www.ncsu.edu/student_affairs/counseling_center/appointments/appointments/appointments2.htm 515-2423 they have urgent care/walk-in services too.
please go or call. 3/2/2007 9:47:15 AM |

I don't want to belittle his problem, but how can an "abusive moment" turn into almost 20 yrs of dissociation? And Quote : | "though all evidence in my psychological history points to sexual abuse" | , but he only remembers the one moment?
It sounds more like hallucination to me. Maybe his daydreams and reality are mixed up.3/2/2007 1:03:32 PM |
