I would like to know what goes on in the mind of some people to suggest we could win out? Wolfpack fans for years and years have used one game to nullify three previous losses and feed off it to suggest we can win out and in this case, three road acc games still on the schedule. Seriously, do you delusionists ever come back to reality or do you just have an obsession for coming up way short every time?

We have a better chance of winning out than winning the ACC tournament (2% IMO). You see, we have 4 games left in 10 days. When we play the ACC tournament, we would have to win 4 games in 4 days (1%). I'm not going to get into specifics, but I think it's safe to assume we would be out of gas by Saturday morning, while the top 4 teams in the conference only have to play 3 games, but if we won 2 games in Tampa, I'm doing backflips.

I realize this, but why aren't we talking about these hypotheticals after a humiliating loss to Maryland or when the wheels fell off aginst G tech. Point is, you're on an emotional high from V Tech, just like everyone was over UNC. Each game is just as valuable to the standings. You don't get two W's for beating the almighty Holes, or for whipping V tech (yes I know we beat them twice). I'd much rather have 3 close W's over Maryland, Miami, and Georgia tech, than the two wins over Va Tech.

Our RPI is horrible. Even if we somehow win out and get 1 or 2 wins in the ACC tourny, our RPI might still be too low for us to get serious consideration.

The problem isn't our bad losses, it's our RPI. We're currently over 100, and I doubt we can even lower it to the 50's in time for the dance.

On the other side, people are saying what if because you never know. We're jaded at NC State because it always seems that good periods are followed by periods of bad. We temper our optimism so that we don't look stupid or get hurt.

But I say fuck that. There is a chance we can go to the Big Dance. We could win out and win 1-2 games in the tourney. Or we could get lucky and win 4 in a row in the ACC tournament.

Will it happen? Most likely not. Could it? Of course.

I think 1 win in the tourney wouldn't be enough, for RPI reasons.

Also, for you naysayers, remember that we are 9-4 with Atsur back. That includes 3 top 25 wins, at least.

If we don't go 8-20 (like some other team) and manage to get to the NIT, I'd be happy.

We are 96 in the Sagarin right now I think...and I want to say like 9 teams from the ACC are top 45 in RPI?

so if we can beat #1 ranked (sagarin, maybe rpi) carolina tonight and win out, those wins will be over teams in the top 50 of rpi which will significantly increase our own rpi

dont forget that we werent doing too hot, then we beat (vt and) unc, and all of a sudden we were receiving votes

if we win 6 of our last 7 games plenty of analysts will consider us "hot" and like i said before "peaking at the right time" and we will get in

winning the acc tourney would be amazing this year given 4 games in 4 days with our (lack of ) depth

it's way different now with 12 teams though. the play-in was the very worst in the conference for a long time. it's now the bottom 8.

I'm saying that I wouldn't ever have any confidence in a team unless they were one of those 4, yes.
If a team were to win 4 in 4 days, they would have had to have been bad enough during the season to be out of the top 4, then they would have to get hot enough at the end of the season to get past probably 2 of those top 4 teams, plus 2 others. Not to mention they would have to be deep enough to not tire out come the last 2 games or so.

About the only way I could see it happening is if a team has a few big time players that are hurt for the majority of the season, only to come back and hit thieir stride perfectly with the team at the end.

that was the last year of the 9 team format. If they had played that thursday, I seriously doubt they would have had the endurance to knock off the #3, #2, and #1 teams in the tournament like they did.

It's VERY hard to win a tourney playing in 4 straight games. Syracuse was the first team in the Big East to finally do it last year and they have had that first round game since the mid-90's; and they did on the back of one guy who got insanely hot. It can happen but it will be very rare.

I don't know about that really. In the super conferences only 4 teams get byes. It's not out of the realm of possiblities a very good team (like Va Tech this year or Duke this year) will have to win 4 to win the tourney..

in the past 20 years, only like 5 teams seeded worse than 4th have made the finals in whatever acc tournament set up there was at the time.
