Stop being cheap fucking bastards. The guy takes you to your first SB in 20 years and this is how you treat him. Jesus fucking christ I hope he doesn't re-sign and goes to a team that will pay him what he is worth. By the way, you are going to be called racists for not paying a black coach the going market rate....just so you know.

Quote :
"Barring what Lovie Smith's agent calls an "unforseen breakthrough," the Chicago Bears coach expects to return for the 2007 season without a new contract.

Smith
Frank Bauer, Smith's agent, told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that talks between the team and coach were at a "stalemate."

"We're not close, we're not encouraged and based on where talks have gone recently, Lovie will be a free agent after next season," Bauer said on Wednesday night.

Smith has one year remaining on his original contract. He was the league's lowest-paid coach at $1.35 million in 2006 and will remain No. 32 on the paylist at $1.45 million in '07.

Smith suspended contract talks shortly before the playoffs when he led the Bears to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1985 after a 13-3 regular season. Negotiations picked up shortly after the Bears lost to the Colts in the championship game, but Bauer said there were significant gaps on the contract terms between management and the coach.

"It would take an unforseen breakthrough for this to get done," Bauer said. "And we are being more than reasonable in this market."

Coaches that have taken their teams to the Super Bowl, even in a losing effort, are making at least $5 million per year, such as Carolina's John Fox.

The Ravens just signed Brian Billick to a four-year extension. The deal, with one year left on his current contract, is valued at $28.5 million over the next five years, a league source said.

I've heard guys on ATH and PTI talk about how bad this franchise is run, almost worse than the Patriots or Knicks, but this is just fucking stupid.

the Patriots is not badly run. They've only won like 3 super bowls in this decade.

Yeah, but they are notorious for not signing their big players when they want more money. And its one of the main reasons they didn't add #4 this year.

When the star of the league says he wants Branch to throw to, the previous years MVP, you don't play hardass and not sign him to what he deserves. Same with Viniteri(sp?) The guy is automatic and won 2 of your SBs with his leg. Granted his replacement did fine, but its the point that you didn't re-sign him that is a joke.

that's just the nature of the NFL, you can't pay everybody.

True, but you can pay the people who helped you win SBs. Which the Patriots don't seem to be very good at.

And Lovie, who is the best coach the Bears have had since Ditka.

I'm not arguing that Lovie Smith shouldn't get paid. I'm arguing that the Patriots is not a badly run franchise.

Dang, I did not know he was the lowest paid coach in the NFL. He should definitely get a good raise.

but at the same time, it's hard to feel bad for a guy pulling $1.35 mil

not an athletes (or coaches in this case) are overpaid rant, just saying.

The patriots don't always pay their players because of the salary cap.

The bears aren't paying Lovie because they are a bunch of cheap fucks. Coaches don't count against the salary cap.

Maybe Norv Turner will bomb out in San Diego and the Chargers can pick up Lovie next year.

How much money does the losing Super Bowl team get?

As for ^^^^^, it's just weird to me that a guy coaches your team to the best regular-season record in the NFL, and then you fire him.
