I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX-L. On two occasions I've had a hard time cranking it. The first time was withing a month of buying it new. The second time was last week. Both times, I tried to crank it and it turned over fine, 10-15 times, but never cranked. I let it rest a minute and tried again and after about 6 turns it cranked a little rough. After that it ran smooth and cranked normally, 2-3 turns.
Does anybody know what the problem might be and if it can be fixed? It seems to me that it has to be ignition or fuel system related. Can somebody with access to TSB's check to see if their is a TSB on this? My warranty expires in a few months, so I'd like to get it fixed if it's something that can and needs to be fixed. 2/22/2007 11:02:16 AM |

I forgot to mention, it's a 4cyl. Let me know if there are other details that would be helpful. 2/22/2007 11:02:41 AM |

Its under warranty, go ahead and schedule an appointment. You need to go ahead and document the problem with them so if it happens again when it is out of warranty they will still fix it.
There are no TSBs for this, unless when your car wont start, the power windows dont work. 2/22/2007 11:47:21 AM |

typically I have noticed on the 4 bangers, not a K series though that they can sometimes be hard to start... though i have found a usual suspect to this, you should just turn your key to the "acc" position or whatever it is called these days for 5 or so seconds and then crank
gives time for the injectors to get fuel into the cylinders

perhaps you meant it gives the fuel system a chance to get up to pressure, because the injectors arent doing anything unless the engine is turning. which doesnt happen in the acc. or on positions. 2/22/2007 2:14:03 PM |

sounds like fuel pump or camp position sensor issues to me 2/22/2007 2:49:13 PM |

^i stay up on the honda boards pretty regularly especially the 7th gen accords now that i own one and havent read anything going wrong with the fuel pump, but that doesnt mean it couldnt
doesnt hurt to take it to honda and have them check it out as stated, doubt they will find anything wrong with it though
what is the camp position sensor?
you mean cam? 2/22/2007 2:55:34 PM |

no, it tells the computer when your camping so the car wont start. it keeps yogi bear from stealing your picnic basket and your honda. one of those new honda hippie devices. 2/22/2007 2:58:06 PM |

LOL sweet!!!
I have this issue intermittently on my 05 Civic (D series) and it didnt always go away with allowing the fuel system to get up to pressure (it did do it less) but in general the car started much more efficiently, got 40K on it and everything is fine
even on my J series accord now, i still just turn the key to the on position and let it sit for 5 seconds or so before starting, never had an issue with it, but again it is a totally different motor 2/22/2007 3:07:02 PM |

CAM position, the computer uses the crank position sensor to tell top dead center every 180 degrees and times the fuel injectors and ignition, the crank position sensor lets the computer know when it is at #1 to fire the correct ones, since the CKP had two tabs that time it twice every revolution, but thats also four times during a single cycle, the CMP pickup has one tab and turns half the speed of the crank, so it comes around once every cycle
