Game is pretty damn fun so far. Needs a nice CPU to run it though. I have a 4200 and it chops a bit. Got another gig of ram today and gonna see how it runs.
AMD Athlon 64x2 4800+ or Intel Core 2 Duo, 1Gb RAM, 3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required - 100% DirectXR 9.0c compatible 256MB (Geforce 7800, for example). 3/20/2007 1:37:12 PM |

I found a torrent for the multi player version, I am installing it now. It was supposedly only released in Europe and its oddly its a Russian Version.
Nevermind, its in German.

Can't get it to work, it keep popping up some error message saying something about 2gbs. I have 1gb of RAM and that should be enough, I dont know what the fuck the problem is. 3/23/2007 1:10:14 PM |

Anyone have the full game?
How is it? 3/30/2007 5:02:28 PM |

the full game is alright IMO. it does have lots and lots of areas to explore, sorta like Elder Scrolls Oblivion. the graphics are good and the weapons are decent at best. it does have its entertainment values though. 3/30/2007 6:18:24 PM |

good game...but hella buggy and the engine is really inefficient.
Like a gritty ugly gem of a game. It runs like horeseshit but the ideas are neat. The part that sucks is that's theres literally a billion enemies at all times, and you can't aim for shit for a long time so it gets repetitive to me. 3/30/2007 6:23:48 PM |

^ yea. it'd be nice if the enemies didn't keep coming out of fucking nowhere 3/30/2007 6:39:52 PM |

Thought I'd BTTT this since I picked the game up tonight. How many of you guys are playing it and what do you think?
I think it's pretty awesome, but the occasional graphics hiccups bug me.
The enemies flying out of nowhere at you is kind of troublesome as well. I just killed about 20 bandits after I walked upon them by mistake, looting corpses as I went to get the ammunition I needed to kill the bastards. Watching creatures fight anomolies is highly enjoyable and terrifying. Currently I'm up in the Garbage trying to head down south to the Cordon again to get my reward for a couple silly missions I did. 4/6/2007 11:06:11 PM |

Quote : | "Shacknews has a great roundup on the current controversy surrounding GSC Game World's recently released PC shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The ruckus, originally uncovered by posters at the MapCore forums, stems from a series of lighting textures and water textures included in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that appear to be ripped directly from id's Doom 3 and Valve's Half-Life 2.
It appears slimy, as little to nothing appears changed with each asset save some filename changes. A very damning "lights_impflash.dds" appears in GSC's list of assets, referencing one of Doom 3's more memorable creatures.
Shacknews has mirrored the shots of the files in question and even has comment from id's Todd Hollenshead who calls the issue "concerning." We'll update as this story develops." |

yeah, just got the game last week and its quite enjoyable. Reminds me of Oblivion but with guns. A few of the missions are quite the thriller, specially in the sewers with mutants & monsters. I like the game play feel of it, its somewhat realistic & surreal, but at the same time a bit arcadish. It's a good blend I think.
I think it's also cool and annoying that everything in the game has weight and you can only carry so much. So you have to adapt to your environment. You can't carry 10 rifles and 5 different pistols with their matching ammo, but it requires you to be more resourceful in the field. And there's quite a bit of different ammo for various guns such as normal, AP, magnum, slugs, darts, and etc. I like how you can customize the rifles a bit (add a scope or a grenade launcher).
The things I dislike about the game is the poor economy in the game. Cash is pretty useless and you can definitely earn a lot of money quite easily by finding artifacts. Getting from one place to another is another annoying thing. You have to run from place to place and some times, the missions would be over a km away and takes like 15 mins just to get there. If they had some sort of faster transportation like paying a fee to hope in a truck between destinations, that would have made the game a bit better. That and the minor bug issues in the game.
I was hoping the open source game play would have been more like oblivion where the map is continuous. I still enjoy the game, but after waiting 3 years for the release, I'm a bit disappointed with it. On par graphics with HL2. 4/7/2007 12:29:24 PM |

All of the sudden I really don't feel like wandering into this lab.
Here goes my life. :/
[Edited on April 8, 2007 at 12:21 AM. Reason : Yep, if the underground lab is a whole nuther level I'm gonna scare the shit out of myself with it.] 4/8/2007 12:20:10 AM |

yeah... its quite the thriller. Scared the living shit out of me once stuff started float around and then are tossed at you for no apparent reason. I've been using what looks to be a Desert Eagle and an H&K G3a1 rifle. Both kick ass. Sadly where the lab is, all you can find are AK74 rounds. I had to run back north with 15 bullets left in my rifle to get some ammo.
I try to pack light so if I run out of ammo, I can just pick up an enemy's weapon and keep on going. Good thing all of those shopkeepers have that blue storage box where you can keep your shit. And trading with other stalkers is a nice touch of when you need to unload some artifacts real quick. Haven't found a use for cash though. 4/8/2007 4:12:06 PM |
