"I recently signed up for it, and I've been more than satisfied so far. I'm not a gamer or a heavy downloader, so folks in that group might have a different opinion.

From what I understand, the service is based off of cell phone towers, so your proximity to one may influence your speed. The modem has lights on the top, and the more lights, the stronger the signal (mine for example, has a full strength signal). Websites, youtube clips, songs, etc all load quickly (I signed up for the basic level; they have a higher "premium" speed for more $$$).

The cool thing is if you travel to one of the other cities that they have coverage in, you can take your modem and have high speed with you at all times."

As with any service, you're going to find people who love it and people who hate it. YMMV.

"you don't have to drag anything around with you...the clearwire modem is just barely taller than a motorola surfboard, but skinnier...you only carry it around if you want to be able to access the internet wirelessly in other areas (which, obviously, isn't even an option with RR or DSL)...additionally, it's my understanding that they have a PCMCIA (and whatever the new form factor is, i forget) clearwire card that you can use for an additional $4.99/month

i have clearwire and i have no complaints"

i've had it since september of last year (before it was "officially" released in october) and i love it...i haven't yet contacted them about the PCMCIA option, but the guy i've been working with was awesome...if you contact clearwire directly, they'll come out to your house and test the signal and such before you buy it...if you have problems with it within 30 days, you get your money back

also, i got the first month free, the second and third months for $6.99 and then $30/month after that...i also have a VoIP phone hooked up to it and i have no problems
