You know who you are... you pay $texas for glitchy equipment so the rest of us can have it 1 year later w/o the problems and $100+ Cheaper.

the wii isn't "glitchy" and in one year it won't be $100 cheaper, so i don't mind having one now

Think he's more talking about people who bought items more like

The first plasma tv's
The first xbox-360's
The first PS3's
The first copies of any OS (hell, buying any newly released OS now is like paying to be a beta tester)

etc.

In terms of hardware, the Wii doesn't have anything that new in it and what is new (controls) were pretty heavily tested. That being said, there are still some issues with the Wii controls and 3rd party developers haven't fully learned how to utilize them for the most part.

As for the "paying to be a beta tester" thing... sadly people actually do pay for beta software some times. Anyone know someone who paid for a premium gamespy/fileplanet subscription to be one of the first to bete dungeons and dragons online? How about paying for the MS Office 2007 betas?

360 wasnt 100 bucks cheaper a year later either and it isnt like you cant patch an OS. i dont generally buy stuff right away, but it isnt that big of a deal for many/most items.

^ Point is, if you wait a year you're a lot less likely to:

Have to deal with components overheating
Have to deal with nVidia drivers causing your computer to crash constantly
Have to turn in your 1st gen model for a refurb in 4 months

Sure, they don't ALWAYS come down in price 100+ bucks the first year, but most technology items (non software) do. Obviously you can patch an OS, but you shouldn't have to pay 60-400 bucks to be a beta tester.

my rule of thumb is that you NEVER purchase a first-gen ANYTHING unless:

1.) it fulfills a particular niche in which you have no other options and you need it NOW
2.) it's comprised largely of proven components/design
3.) you enjoy being a product tester

in terms of cars, i don't think i'd EVER consider buying a wholly new design until at least the third revision...electronics seem a lot safer by gen 2
