List guys giving impressive NFL combine performances that can't get it done in games here.

I'll start with Greg Olsen, TE from the U.
http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2007/olsen_greg

4.51 40 at the combine.

40 times are a joke anyway. most of the guys there are too stupid to operate a stopwatch correctly.

thats why they time the 40's with computers. combine 40's are as accurate as they get.

Bullshit

Virginia Tech's 40's are as accurate as they get. Everyone on that team runs a 4.2, even offensive linemen. Fuck what the combine says!

A legit 4.5 is flying for a tight end. That's faster than a lot of wide recievers

olsen's lowest was a 4.47, I watched it live, and that was the time, plus they talked about it yesterday on ESPN.

Chris Henry, RB from Arizona, weighs over 230 lbs and just ran a 4.33 40, pretty impressive. Probably the next combine freak.

I've seen multiple people (scouts) on the sidelines with stopwatches. There is a such thing as an "unofficial clocking" ya know. And some of those clockings are dead accurate.

Quinn

From ESPN

Quote :
"What the scouts have found in their exposure to Quinn this week is a bright, well-prepared player. He is a quarterback who has played and won big games"

Ummm, what big games did he ever win? Winless in bowl games, never beat USC.

Yeah, the big knock on Quinn is that he hasn't won the big game. The NFL Network guys were talking about it. Whether or not losing the big games is his fault is debatable.

I guess I need to post information showing how inaccurate 40 times are again, since there are so many dumbasses in this thread. state409c included.

there is not one single fucking person in the NFL that runs a sub 4.3 second 40 time, and there is no way in hell a TE ran a 4.5s 40.

http://www.olympic-usa.org/11611_32384.htm

Quote :
"There is no official world record for 40 yards.

The shortest distance that the IAAF, track and field's international governing body, recognizes for world-record purposes is an indoor 50 meters, or about 54 yards. It is 5.56 seconds and it was set by Canadian sprinter Donovan Bailey in 1996. There is also a world record for 60 meters -- 6.39 seconds by American Maurice Greene in 1998.

But it is another Canadian, Ben Johnson, who is believed to have run 40 yards faster than any human in history. Johnson is best known for injecting copious amounts of steroids and winning the 100 meters at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul in 9.79 seconds, only to have his gold medal and world record stripped after failing a post-race drug test.

Timing officials have since broken down that famed race into 10-meter increments, and Johnson was so preposterously fast that he went through 50 meters in 5.52 seconds and 60 meters in 6.37 -- both under the current world records at those distances. He went through 40 yards that day in 4.38 seconds.

He was running in spikes . . . on a warm afternoon perfectly suited for sprinting . . . with a slight tailwind . . . with years of training from arguably track's top coach, Charlie Francis . . . with Carl Lewis and six others of the fastest men on the planet chasing him . . . with 69,000 people roaring at Seoul's Olympic Stadium . . . with hundreds of millions of people watching on TV . . . with the ultimate prize in sports, an Olympic gold medal, at stake.

And, as we learned later, with muscles built with the assistance of the anabolic steroid stanazolol.
"

now, you can continue to blabber on like the incompetent morons that you are, or you can admit how fucking stupid it is to look at 40 times. most reported 40 times are done off of a stopwatch operater in the stands that report the time at the first movement of the athlete. it takes the body over a tenth of a second to translate the optical input into a muscle movement. also, most stopwatch operaters use their thumbs instead of their forefinger for measuring time, and the thumb takes two tenths of a second longer to operate than the forefinger. you do the math.

[Edited on February 25, 2007 at 9:00 PM. Reason : but you're right, half the NFL is faster]

He is right about the fact that NFL times are misreported.

If you put NFL athletes up against track and field athletes they get smoked.

However, this is an apples to apples scenario so it really only matters what a guy's reported time is since he is being compared to other people's times who were recorded just as inaccurately.

the only time 40 times are apples to apples comparisons is at the combine, since it is done in an indoor field with the same equipment used for everyone. even though the number isn't correct because of the lasers operating after the player has already got a running start, it's still accurate across the board. However, a lot of people at the combine get hurt by their combine time due to other athletes that don't even go to the combine and have unofficial 40 times spread.

just look at what the 40 time did to Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith.

You still don't get it you halfwit. I was trolling you from the beginning. I didn't even read what the debate was about, I just saw where skokiaan replied to you, and kiljadn laughed and I posted that you were wrong.

Christ you're thickheaded.

Fucking look at you, you're still debating some inane pointless shit, that no one really cares about, not even people in this thread.
