IIRC, your entire grade can be based solely on four exams.
four open note exams.
four open note exams that you have a full 24 hours to complete, at your leisure, in the comfort of your own home.
what more do you need? the answer keys handed to you?

sorry. i guess that wasnt meant to be directed at you.
it was more directed at the people i see here every semester complaining about how hard the class is and how they got a C- or D+ or something.
i dont get it.

^understandable with all the noobs lurking about here.
i'm taking it online this summer. it looked far too easy from the description, so i was wondering if he's a hardass and asks random, obscure crap to ensure complete and utter anihilation of your grade. 3/3/2007 6:52:56 PM |
joe_schmoe All American 18758 Posts user info edit post |
i have no idea about the online class. but effectively thats what i took during the normal semester, becasue i rarely ever went to his lectures. all his materials were already online.
his exam questions are not easy. but you have all the material available online, its all from his materials. you have 24 full hours to look up every single question. some questions are tricky, but they're not "trick questions". if you have the reading comprehension skills expected of a university student, youre gonna get an A.
if however you're like many people here and can't read and/or cant figure out how to do keyword searches, well, you're probably destined for a C.

Eh, I hated that class. Just because the tests are open notes does not make it easy. My reading comprehension/searching skills are just fine and the exams were still hard as anything. Yeah, you do get 24 hours for each exam, and you'll probably need most of them to do well on it. The only exam that's actually an easy A/B is the final (which is optional to begin with, but I think it's essential if you want a decent grade). Just be careful, because it is ridiculously easy to get a C or something like that.
I would honestly think twice before deciding to take it. 3/4/2007 7:43:10 PM |

I guess he changed the course from when I took it. We had in-class tests and a paper. The one thing that class did was convince me that philosophical arguments based on any kind of science were complete garbage and a waste of time. 3/4/2007 11:36:29 PM |

I'm putting in no effort, and I think i'll get a B. I could put in some effort and probably get a solid A (which I should do). 3/5/2007 11:49:41 AM |

Does anyone have any copies of old tests. I talked to a buddy about how long it took to do the first test doing the keyword searches and everything, and he laughed at me and asked why I don't just find the old tests. Well I guess that'd be nice, but I don't know anyone who has them.

Not quite that simple or easy... but, your missing the point. The point is we're trying to not spend 5hrs. doing keyword searches! 3/20/2007 7:02:18 PM |
joe_schmoe All American 18758 Posts user info edit post |
^ wrong.
i didnt spend more than 2 or 3 hours on any exam. 3/21/2007 12:01:17 AM |

"^ wrong."
Your still missing the point... 3hrs. is an insane amount of time to be spending on a 20 question test.
all right... I think the horse is officially dead... 3/21/2007 12:24:14 AM |

three hours included a lot of goofing off at the coffee shop while i did it on a laptop.
but fine, whatever. get a C, then. Because I'm really sorry if you're expected to look up the finer points of some obscure bullshit on a take-home, open-note, online exam that you have 24 hours to complete.
and you're still missing the conjunction.

Attention Everyone:
joe_schmoe is the man at PHI 340!!! He finished his tests in only three hours! And, get this, he was goofing off and drinking coffee at the same time! To finish it off, he knows how to use a elementary logic (because he uses the big word "conjunction" to finish off his beating of the horse)!

you know, i meant to say "contraction" ... not "conjunction" so, ironically, my grammar joke failed because i suck at grammar.
but that still doesn't change the fact that ^ you're a freak.
good luck on your exam BTW.

Thanks joe_schmoe. I'm sure I'll do fine.
P.S. Name calling is the coolest thing in the world. It's a great way to get back at someone when you get owned; especially when you use harsh words like "freak" (because they don't confuse the illiterate when they try to use them suitably in a sentence). Seriously Joe, take it back. 3/22/2007 9:55:09 PM |
