I'd say consider ThinkPad's too. They're generally more durable and the education discount you get is more significant.

Free loaner and on-campus service and all that. Plus it's a fairly big discount off the retail pricing.

Think pads are cool but they're really more business oriented laptops than i'm looking for.
I can get employee pricing on one but even their top of the line model isn't that impressive for media purposes and which ever laptop i get really needs to have dvi out at least hopefully hdmi out.

Unfortunately, the information on the engineering site is all that I'm allowed to say. Those models will not be found on lenovo's site (employee section or otherwise.)

if thats your main concern, don't get a dell (or reinstall windows on it as soon as you get it).

there was a kick ass deal that you should look into from thinkpad...its like a C2D2.0, 1gb ram, 100gig hd, 256meg video card, for like 1500....
thats a frigging steal...with vista business...

$1500 and you only get 1gb of ram?

Why get anything other than something along those lines? Dual core 1.73GHz, comes with 2GB of RAM, 160GB hdd and a DVD burner for $700. Put the 3 year warranty, a nice video card if that matters to you and a couple other options and you won't be anywhere near $1500

hp's are really good...they used to suck balls, however, ever since they bought out gateway and compaq they've turned around everything for the better

Mac Book Pros get so hot you can't really put them on your lap, and have a downclocked x1600 gpu i think for heat managment. They're alright computers, but you could get something alot better for the money because Macs are more pricy for what you get than thinkpads in my opinion.

^great selection, dells are worth it and the warranties are great. They'll come to your house for free if any part ever breaks. And the online 24/7 chat is a great feature. Expect to get a power adapter in the next 2 days free of charge if yours ever breaks.
