I started it yesterday, heard a bang, like a backfire from the engine area, and now my car sounds like the flubber machine. The engine shakes back and forth such that the whole car shakes and when I turn the car off I can hear a noise coming from the engine area that sounds like pressure escaping.

Any ideas?

sounds like the distributor chain and valve guide bearings are shot. common problem with the proteges. parts might be like $200, labor another $100. good luck.

That sounds like a bunch of assfaggotry malarkey right there.

Sure a plug blowing out of an engine might cost that much...if they took the whole goddamn engine apart to fix it. Or maybe 2/3 of that if they just yanked the head.

Somebody got fucked without gettin' a kiss...

Seriously, on a car that age, I would have shot a Helicoil in there with the head still on...provided I could get the tap in the hole far enough and I could get the insert tool in there properly. I'd have greased the hell out of the tap and made multiple trips.
