I've been thinking about going back to school for a second degree at NCSU. My first time in college I was in graphic design but transferred out after a year to end up getting a BA in Film studies.

If I went back to NCSU for graphic design, would my previous year of credits (taken from '01 to '02) count towards my degree? Also, would the general education credits I took in film also count towards my degree?

Any class you took then, that is still in the graphic design curriculum (sp?) would count towards your degree and you wouldn't have to retake them.

If you completed one whole degree I'd assume you will have filled almost all of your electives also.

Just go to the design schools website... see what classes/electives they require for graduation and see what you've taken that will overlap.

There is a length of time for which your credits are still good. They can expire. Registration and Records will know for sure.

Possibly. Though there are a lot of "it depends" questions. Probably easiest to call somebody in R&R or better yet, if possible, see them in person.

Do they have a masters program? If you already have course work and experience, you can probably get in. Worth asking about since its worth more money and doesn't take as long.

Thanks for the info. Would it be better to talk to someone in R&R or College of Design first?

You should definitely go for a Masters instead of just finishing up a second BA.

^Yeah, well. here's the story

I dropped out of design after getting a D- in the second semester fundementals (sp?) class. (first semester I received an A-).

I graduated with my BA in Film studies with a GPA of about 2.23.

Is that too low?

jesus, yea you might have trouble with that. how in your name do you even get a D- in design.

I've watched people literally not even show up for 4 months and pull a B.

I really disagreed with the aesthetic ideas of the professor.

Really depends on the individual program you are applying for. Some are hard-asses and want the numbers, no matter what (Scholars / Honors used to be that way 2001-2005 with enrollment determined on SAT score). Others will really not care about the numbers so long as you have excellent recommendations, work experience, and, proof of your work (or strong discussion points, depending). Some programs want all of the above.

Again "it depends" on your individual program. Anything in particular in mind?

Im a bit curious about pursuing a second degree as well. However, I have a slightly different situation.

I graduated from NCSU COM, Business Mgt-HR. Did fine, grades were decent.

Im thinking that Id like to get a degree (or two) in either mech engineering or biology. As Ive already gone through the whole four year process, with all of the pre reqs and bullshit general ed classes, would I have to do them all again? Basically, would I be looking at another 120+ credits?

Or... ?

How does this situation work?
