I know this is probably an old model, but it came with the office purge and I picked it up. It has Mac OS X 10.4 and Microsoft Office installed. I can't get the ethernet connection to work and when I plug it into my router the router stops working, so I'm guessing there's something wrong with its ethernet bridge. Otherwise it's just your typical widescreen powerbook laptop. Best offer takes it; I have no use for it. I'll throw in an iMac mouse/keyboard combo for free if you want it.

no, no wireless. I beleive this was made right around the time wireless was about to take off. 3/17/2007 4:21:51 PM |

You could actually add wireless aftermarket, but Apple doesn't make the wireless cards anymore.
I also think that some 3rd party Lucent-based wireless cards would work too, but you'd have to look around online to confirm this information.
You could also do IP over firewire, so if you had another computer with firewire, you can share the internet over that connection. 3/17/2007 4:58:08 PM |

does it carry any cool programs like garageband? 3/17/2007 5:00:50 PM |

^Garageband would be painfully, painfully slow on this machine. They recommend at LEAST a 733mhz G4 CPU. 3/17/2007 5:14:34 PM |

It carries whatever comes with X 10.4 and Microsoft Office. Sorry, had to reimage it when it left the office. 3/17/2007 5:15:37 PM |

How can I test the battery, just leave it on and see how long it lasts? 3/17/2007 5:24:42 PM |

That's one way, but it would probably be artificially high. You'd need some way to simulate average processor usage. 3/17/2007 5:31:21 PM |

The "buy it now" price of this 400mhz powerbook g4 is $200. 3/17/2007 5:57:13 PM |

It's a decent laptop, but $200 is high for a 400Mhz computer with no wireless networking.
I bet it would run Garageband okay for really basic stuff too. 3/18/2007 3:04:42 AM |

If the ethernet worked, you'd have a deal. I need a cheap (preferably Apple) laptop for my grandfather. Internet access is a must, though. Incidentally, the Ethernet card failed on my 800 MHz Titanium PowerBook as well. After warranty ran out, of course. 3/18/2007 3:46:06 PM |

It's one of those things, I guess. I don't really know how Apples works in terms of slot-upgrades but if you can PCMCIA an ethernet card you are set. 3/18/2007 3:48:01 PM |
