thats pretty cool even if you hate him:

Ever wonder how much Dick Vitale makes on those obnoxious Hooters ads? Well, the Dayton Daily News reports that Dickie V makes nothing of them. Instead, Vitale asked Hooters to donate $500,000 to the Jimmy Valvano cancer fund if he did the commercials. In the words of Vitale, "That's awesome, baby!"

I like Dickie V.

Yes, he gets a little overzealous sometimes, but he's always been supportive of NCSU, and especially Jimmy V/V Foundation.

The guy loves what he does.

I hate the fact that our university acts as if Valvano never existed, and that Dickie V hates us for that. Plus the fact that Dickie V loved Herb and hated the fact that we made him leave.

I understand if you don't like him because he is so "flamboyant" and "over the top."

But if you don't like because you think he loves UNC and Duke too much....then you are just an idiot. First, Duke and UNC are pretty fucking good. Second, Dickie V "loves" whoever is good. Its what makes him who he is. You can't have his personality and give his commentary if you're talking shit....it's almost impossible (IT'S AWEFUL WITH A CAPITAL AAAAAAA!!!!).

I actually did recently gain a little more respect / less hate for Dickie V lately

Anybody have that audio clip of him on hold with the sports radio station talking about where Horston will or won't get drafted? Theres an audio clip of him talking shit to some UNC fan since they lost...here I'll try to find it

Um, Dickie V has been a staunch advocate of the V foundation since 1992 when it came to fruition, so why did he just step up??? What he has done for the foundation and what he did for Valvano is nothing short of amazing. Any time I see a state fan crashing on Vitale for anything I know one of two things to be true. You didn't go to State, or you were not a fan until after V passed (which is maybe stretching since Les didn't exactly put us on the map). So in essence, no true State fan can honestly say a bad thing about Vitale. Yea, you can call him overwhelming or slightly annoying, but to call him "idiot, moron, etc" means you aint a State/Valvano fan.

That would mean that his voice would survive for another generation instead of being gone for good in another decade or so

Yeah, that puts him at step one.

almost every broadcast he brings up how much he misses his 'dear friend jimmy v'

i can't hate him for that. plus when we're brought up he usually has nice things to say (as rare as that may be).

Vitale talks about NC State whenever the ACC is mentioned. I've heard him talk us up during the Herb/Hodge era when there wasn't even an ACC team playing in the game he was covering. He has always been a huge State fan--we just haven't given him as much to talk about as Duke and UNC in recent years.

I heard Jim Rome talking about Dickie V on his radio show one afternoon. Rome had nothing but good things to say about him. He talked briefly about Vitale's work with basketball players, particularly in giving them guidance on making the most out of their college career. Truthfully, you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Vitale fan than Jim Rome.

Vitale haters have always annoyed me, nice to get some ammo to shut them up with...

The ONLY downside to Dickie V is his broadcast style.

Other than that he's always done great things, for State, the ACC, the sport, and the athletes.

He's been one of the biggest supporters of the V Foundation, and this latest contribution is only part of that.

/tiphat to Dickie V.
