Breaks cover ahead of the embargo!
Quote : | "With the New York Auto Show only a couple weeks away, the embargos had to begin to break any day now. Road and Track started things off by releasing its May issue online early with a single of the new Infiniti G37 and a short driving impression. Edmunds Inside Line and Automobile smelled blood, and immediately opened the flood gates revealing everything they knew about Infiniti's new G Coupe. These news outlets were apparently invited to a sneak preview of the G37 at Nissan's test facility in Arizona last month, and while Infiniti likely set strict embargoes on publishing pictures and driving impressions of the new model, all it takes is one hole in the dam to start a deluge. " |
But couldn't they get into trouble for releasing info earlier than they were asked to?

Should give the 335i a run for its money. I like the front-end styling, but the back-end styling seems a bit off, compared to the current model. The tail lights seem a bit plain compared to now. And is it just me, or does it seem porkier, when viewing from the back?

As regards the back looking porkier, compare these pics of the G35, G37, and the G37 Concept. In the Concept, you can clearly see that the bottom of the car at the back, projects out further than the trunk and back bumper, giving it a lean appearance. In the production model, the bottom is set in, compared to the trunk and back bumper, making the back rounded, and seem fat.
The tailpipes also seem to be set in, accentuating the rounding. In the G35 and the Concept, they stick out further.

This is kind of depressing. Seeing all the new V-6 engine are 250+hp. Hell, even a lousy xle camry V-6 has 268hp. Infiniti now has most of its models over 300hp. E36 M3 is getting weaker and older by the day Maybe time to start shopping for GT-35R 3/21/2007 10:21:56 AM |

yeah i remember when jap V6's used to offer 220 hp in the top models, and 190 in the pedestrian models.
now at least 260 is standard for the pedestrian models, and at least 300 is standard for the luxury/sporty ones.
this 3.7 litre V6 makes as much as the 4.5 litre V8 in the M45

There's not much to say. It will probably have better performance for the money than the BMW. I wonder if Infiniti will have a "M" soon, like Lexus now has the "F?" 3/21/2007 3:16:42 PM |

In all other countries they are the same. Twin Turbos on this will be nice. Rumor has it they may also offer an infiniti with a single turbo VQ37 (continuing the trend in other countries as the skyline GTS-T vs. the GTR) 3/21/2007 4:39:52 PM |

I think the G35 is one of the best looking cars around. But I'm kind of disappointed with the styling of the new G37. I'm not liking the whole swollen rounded look. Front end reminded me of the new Eclipse for a brief second. But it's actually more acceptable on the Eclipse. 3/21/2007 7:08:44 PM |

kind of depends on your definition of performance. it may be a better value, but in the true sense of the word i think this is pretty doubtful.

i don't think the name was the point of the comment - i think the point was that the m3 is the performance 3 series for bmw and that nissan doesn't have a performance car like that where it's essentially the same car with upgraded components - they can call it anything...3/21/2007 8:48:13 PM |

By performance I mean it will probably out run a similar priced BMW at a track and do it almost as comfortably/fluidly/gracefully whatever you want to call it. What other "true sense of the word" is there?3/21/2007 9:45:20 PM |

The new G35 sedan lost in a C&D comparo to a BMW 328 pretty much b/c of "refinement and smoothness". The G35 walked all over it in every performance category, but they didn't enjoy the NVH. And if you want to argue that C&D should have used a 335i, well that car's $10k over the price of a G35.

2008/9 Infiniti EX35
The FX's younger sibling.
Love those G35/37 style headlamps, and the aggressive styling, just like the groundbreaking styling of the FX when it came out. Will be a success just like the FX.
Will be in sale by end of year. Although this is a concept, not much will be changed in the production version.
Look at the 3rd pic, you can barely tell it apart from the G35/37.

I wondeer now if the 350Z will receive the new engine, and become the 370Z...? Definitely sounds plausible, and the Z is the real sports car of the two, so it should get the upgraded engine.
Here is the first interior pic of the G37... those seats look great.

nfiniti launches G37 Sedan, EX37 crossover for Europe
Interesting:
Quote : | "Infiniti has revealed its 2009 G37 Sedan and EX37 crossover for the European market. While we haven't heard definitively yet, it appears the G37 Sedan and EX37 will be sold in Europe only, rather than replacing the G35 Sedan and EX35 in the United States.
The G37 Sedan and EX35 have the same engine as the popular G37 Coupe sold here in North America. The difference is the motor has been detuned from 330 horsepower to 306. As a result, the G37 Sedan bound for Europe is pretty much equal in performance to the 3.5-liter G35 Sedan sold in America. Interestingly, the G37 Sedan actually has less torque than its G35 counterpart — 258 pound-feet instead of 270.
The EX37, meanwhile, is slightly superior than the EX35 in terms of horsepower and torque — 306 hp versus 297 horsepower, and 258 pound-feet versus 253 lb-ft.
As mentioned above, it's not known if the U.S. will get these revised models for the 2009 model year (or later), but recent rumors suggest Infiniti will stick with the 3.5-liter V6 for the North American models. " |

Hey, I have a G35S! I really considered the G37 when I bought mine, but I wanted the practicality of the 4 door so I went with the G35S sedan. After looking it over and test driving I think Infiniti offers you more car for the money than BMW. You really are paying about 5k for the badge on the hood. To get all the option and performance that I got in my car you would have had to pimp the shit out of a 328i and then deal with the fact that it's not as powerful and you still paid more or buy a stipped down 335i (which is fucking impossible to find).
Based on the research and actually going out I think anybody looking at that type of vehicle (3 series, G35, A4, C-class) needs to seriously consider the Infiniti. I'm extremely pleased with mine. 2/27/2008 9:10:14 PM |

Keep in mind there is a difference between more car for the money, and a better overall car. If you're willing to spend 35 grand on a 4 door sedan, honestly what's another 5.2/28/2008 6:37:22 PM |
Kurtis636 All American 14984 Posts user info edit post |
Ehhh, depends on what you think is the better overall car. Performance wise the g35 and the 328 perform almost identically except in the 0-60 where the g35 blows the doors off of the bimmer. The amenities on my car are vastly superior to what I would have gotten on a comparably priced BMW. The last few reviews rate the 3-series slightly higher than the infiniti (like, only a couple of points higher in the overall testing), however those are in things like motortrend that are notorious for slobbing the knob of BMW, so the fact that they're willing to admit that the 3-series has competition is signficant. Consumer reports, which is a pretty unbiased magazine rates the Infiniti considerably higher than the BMW.
Having test driven and seen them all I preferred the infiniti so that's what I bought.

i'm waiting to buy a new car, but i echo your sentiments.
i test drove a 2008 bmw 335i, a 2008 cadillac cts, and a 2008 G35 Sport...the G35 was BY FAR the most fun. the car performed better than the bmw in my opinion, and the interior and other features were much better in the infiniti. i'm sorry, but a completely stripped down interior for "german simplicity" doesn't cut it for me if i'm spending over $30k.
the g35 sport is a beast. i'll be driving one before too long, i just opted to wait until some used ones come on the market. 2/28/2008 10:24:38 PM |
