will never be succesful. You can't have athletes (Green, Summers), you can't have good PGs (Wallace and next year Wright), and you certainly can't develop big men (Hibbert).
Just want to say it is fun to watch a high powered Princeton offense run. The sharp cuts led to AT LEAST 5 dunks and the athletes they have were top notch.
When is the last time a primarily Princeton offense has made the Final 4? Is this the first in the modern era?

Georgetown's offense is far more predicated on working inside-out than the old "NC State" offense. 3/25/2007 6:34:02 PM |

JT3 coached at Princeton and is a Carril (sp?) disciple. The only school that has ever runt he P.O. is Princeton. EVERYBODY said the modified P.O. couldn't work and if you get the right players and everyone buys into the system it can, which was my point. Don't be idiots... 3/25/2007 6:34:57 PM |

it is no more the "princeton" offense than the offense we ran this year.
when people around here talk shit about the princeton offense, we are talking about the version that would have had hibbert and green running around 35 ft. from the basket jacking up threes... yeah, they wouldnt be in the final four with that offense 3/25/2007 6:35:16 PM |

I know you LOVE to troll me but all year long I was big on Georgetown and people kept saying they'd never be succesful because of their "Princeton offense." I mean I know it's not vintage 80's Princeton offense but it's the same framework.... I was right.
Troll away... 3/25/2007 6:41:53 PM |

If Herb ran the princeton offense, then Georgetown doesnt run anything close to a princeton offense. 3/25/2007 7:22:45 PM |

The difference is that when we played it, Packer would say: "why isn't Simmons going straight to the blocks?" 3/25/2007 8:13:05 PM |

Because simmons is much better in the high post trying to bounce a backdoor pass through a bunch of defenders to a cutter whom everyone knows is cutting. 3/25/2007 8:15:32 PM |

They dun run the P.O. they play inside out...just because jt3 coached there, thats why they are calling it that. They use up the shot clock which. but the offense doesn't run through their big men....their big men post up in a traditional fashion. 3/25/2007 9:27:45 PM |

You can't compare Georgetown's offense with what we ran.
Georgetown works from the inside out, and there's technically nothing Princeton about it other than they run a few backdoors. They have a true center that they run the offense through and allow to actually be a true center. They have quick guards that can create shots with the drive and not just weave around before shooting 3's.
State really wasn't all that Princeton~esque either. We ran backdoor cuts, but it usually was going through the motions and not using it effectively and then jacking up a three. Our player development / talent level is/was nowhere near what Gtown has, either. (And that's not due to lack of time) 3/25/2007 9:27:54 PM |

I never compared the two. In fact, all year when people were talking shit about Georgetown because of the offense, I said they clearly haven't watched them play and that it was totally different than the Herb offense...
actually G'Town's is much closer to what is the real P.O. than ours was from an aesthetic pov....

How the hell has Thompson turned them around so quickly?
I don't follow Georgetown, but they haven't been that good recently and he's got some good players. Are they all young?
Edit: And as a side note, I've started watching Gtown in the tourney (obviously) and was a little surprised at the way I stereotyped their offense. I really think Chris Wright will excel there, whereas before I figured they ran an NC State type offense that wouldn't allow him to create shots for other players like Gtowns guards seem to do

I don't know. I'm impressed. I can't believe they groomed Esherick instead of JT3 to take over that program after JTjr.. I think just the name Thompson has improved their recruiting and he is obviously very good at developing players. Wallace was a walk-on and Hibbert went from a bad Adam Simons to All-Big East... He seems like a pretty likable guy, unlike his Dad too...
As a longtime Knicks fan it's pretty awesome to see Pat Ewing, Jr. being a contributor...
---- actually Summers was the 2nd best recruit this past year too. Vernon Macklin (?) was their top guy, but he is pretty raw. Wright/Freeman are a good backcourt duo for next year though.. Twerps fans are scared...

Twerps should be scared.
Gtown is now going to get all the players in a talent-rich part of the country whereas before they fell into Maryland's lap.
Gary Williams might can coach okay (and that's questionable)... but he sucks arse at recruiting. Hell, half of his Championship team fell into his lap because other coaches didn't want them. 3/25/2007 9:38:11 PM |
