I could incline more than I could bench or squat

I bet his incline is up there too because of his shoulders (most lineman are similar)

There are some guys who bench more than they squat because their upper body is so big it makes the bench rep that much easier (smaller range of motion). With a squat, you still have to go parallel and for big guys it can be hard to get that low and back up.

Also Levar Fisher benched 555 when he was at State...

^^ right, plus he has to lift his own massive upperbody... that's probably alot of self-weight

Didn't Derrick Morris break some kind of unnoficial record at the Day of Champions?

from what i've heard, while chuck was here, it's hard to believe any of those bench numbers. At least the ones during the "Walk(or was it Day?) of Champions". I heard the weights were less than advertised to create buzz and put on a good show.

Walk of Champions doesn't include weight lifting

that comment about having a large upper body helping your bench Range of Motion is just bullshit. look how long his arms are. This isn't some 5'-7" midget bodybuilder. his bench number is very impressive, and it's definitely because of good training. however, bench strength won't bail your ass out when you don't have the leg strength to back it up.

all of these comments are just excuses for why he doesn't put emphasis on leg training. he's going to get bullied around in the NFL if he doesn't beef up his legs with a quickness.

I never said that is the reason Tank benchs more than he squats.

I was answering a question someone else asked about who benchs more than they squat. Many professional power lifters are strong and have high bench presses because they have short arms and huge chests and thus less range of motion.

I asked that question - not someone else, and you're full of shit. no serious power lifter benches more than they squat, or even comes close to it raw lifting.

it said in the article that he had a slight hamstring problem at the combine, maybe that had something to do with his relatively low squat

How do you know? Lifting weights and playing football are two completely different things. I've always taken combine lifts with a grain of salt. Its like a horse show. Agility, quickness, and athleticism are most critical at that level. Lifts do not always correspond with these. And besides, maybe he had a bad day!

It's easy to bench more then you squat you bounce it off your chest with three of your boys deadlifting it off you.

Yea, thanks for your opinion. You sir don't know shit about me or what i am talking about.

I'm not downplaying the importance of lower-body strength. You must not have good reading skills. I am saying that there are several factors, not just a goddamn lift. A 500 pound squat may not be spectacular by NFL standards, but its not weak either. Squatting a shitload doesn't make someone faster or agile- which are skills that are most valued. And besides, he might have just had a bad day. Its been stated his hamstring is hurt.

Shit guys, let it go. I good squat certainly helps one's strength, agility, football skill, etc. It is also one of a few factors that play in to it. If you can squat 700 lbs but have two fucking left feet and a 300 lb bench, I can't imagine you'll be a probowler. However, if you've got great footwork and only a 300 lb squat, you aren't making it very far either.

that would definitely make a difference. squatting deep is damn near impossible with a hamstring injury, and that is one muscle you definitely don't want to tear. if you ever do tear a hamstring, surgery is the only way to correct the situation.

I was wondering why his squat number was so low, considering the way he bowled over offensive linemen during games.

restricted shut the fuck up

i gaurantee that while his squat is average, he can bring that shit 4 quarters of football and he has good hands to where the fucker aint gotta bullrush the o lineman head on all the damn time like u seem to think so

i know cuz i payed with him, he got tiny lil legs too we always got on him for that, hes got what he needs to succeed man, go show us how tough you are and WIN THE COMBINE

(hes gotten bigger since when he was here, obviously lol)

theres a diff between being a stiffneck powerlifter and being a fluid athlete

If the bench press wasn't the weightlifter's exercise equivalency of penis envy noone would care.

Besides, some people for whatever reason are better at certain exercises.

The fact that his front delts and tris are huge might have something to do with it.

^^^^ I'm knocking his ability to play football douchebag, I'm knocking the inflated numbers that college programs put out. Its all a contest to see who guys are the strongest instead of teaching players the correct way to lift, which is way more beneficial then saying someone can squat 700.

weightlifters maybe, but not powerlifters. the deadlift reigns supreme with them.

there's been talks on some rams boards that they wouldn't mind trading down from their 13th pick to get tank. this is if okoye is gone (which he probably will be), and the rams need the extra pick too.

the chiefs are also reportedly very interested in tank. there have been a couple of mock drafts that have them taking tank at #23 (if okoye and branch are gone). carl peterson, the chiefs' president, ceo, and gm, was at one of the pro days to look at tank. their d-line coach, kumrie, had hands-on workout with tank.
http://tinyurl.com/2mko4s

finally, there's talks in the jets and buccaneers crowds about taking tank in the first. and keep in mind that alot of teams are cooling on alan branch, because of his character issues. tank had his run in with the cop and spitting on the southern miss player, but i don't think anyone's really concerned about his character.
