Maravich is still the all-time leading NCAA scorer, averaging a staggering 44.2 points per game, without the benefit of a three-point line and excluding the records of his freshman year due to the fact that when Pete was in his first year of college, the NCAA had separate freshman and varsity basketball teams and freshman were not allowed to play on the varsity team.

Say what you want, but he was an innovator, and possibly the best ball handler of all time. Domination of his era.

i thought he almost came to state

his dad, Press Maravich, coached State briefly after Case had to retire because of cancer, I think that team won the ACC title

and then Pete followed his dad down to LSU

Pete wanted to go to State but we wouldn't let him in.

His father did coach 1 season (Or possibly half...not sure if Case left mid-season) and win an ACC Championship, but out of spite for not letting Pete in the offseason, he bolted for LSU.

He wanted to go to West Virginia after he knew he was going to be denied admission in the ACC.

His father wouldn't let him go there becuase he had just quit his job at NC State to be able to coach him....so he basically made him come to LSU.
