Okay, so I've been looking for HOURS for some affordable sex bolts/chicago screws that aren't tiny as hell.
Is what I'm talking about. We need some that are at least 1/2" diameter on the bolt/screw. The only ones I can find are like 5-10 bucks EACH. There has got to be a cheaper alternative.
Right now our only real alternative are tee nuts, which are ugly as hell. So really any suggestions along this line of nuts/fasteners would be greatly appreciated. 4/14/2007 7:03:24 PM |

^ might help you out some. I dont know too much about this stuff (Tee nuts are the things used to sorta create a 'threaded' hole synthetically right?). Either way that site along with mcmaster and possibly even http://www.grainger.com might help you. 4/15/2007 6:43:21 PM |

I am sure Century Fasteners on Brownleigh has them, but I imagine they aren't cheap. 4/15/2007 6:51:44 PM |

Yea we go over to wilder's all the time. They are all piss expensive for stuff like this.
We bought the last set from McMaster Carr, but again, WAY too expensive. Looking at almost 10 bucks PER BOLT from them.

So funny you say that, it's almost sickening how often that's what happens, because apparently NOBODY makes decent bolts anymore :/
Grainger didn't have em either.

what are you using it for, is it not at all possible to use another piece of hardware? 4/15/2007 8:03:49 PM |

yea, we are probably just going to compromise and use a much cheaper alternative. Sucks because nuts and bolts are ugly as sin when you have both sides exposed.
unfortunately this is for a project where we can't do any custom machining or pay 10-20 bucks a set. 4/15/2007 8:10:07 PM |

did you try tower fasteners? call them and ask for Tracey 919-878-5977. also what about using some press in hardware like PEM threaded standoffs and regular machine screws. http://www.pemnet.com.
