I noticed this on cnn.com and was wondering if anyone had tried it yet...

Quote :
"Nobody buys CDs anymore, right? You want that new album by The Shins or Kings of Leon? You go download it from a service like Apple’s iTunes (AAPL), Napster (NAPS), RealNetworks’ (RNWK) Rhapsody or Yahoo!’s (YHOO) Y! Music Unlimited. CDs? They’re so 1993.

Not so fast. A cool Web site called Lala.com lets music lovers wondering what to do with all those quaint pieces of plastic and aluminum they own trade their CDs with other music fans.

Here’s how Lala works. You sign up for a free membership, enter CDs you’re willing to trade and list CDs that you want mailed to you. Once you agree to start trading, Lala sends you mailing kits and you pay $1 for each CD that you receive plus shipping charges of 75 cents. So it’s kind of like a cross between Netflix (NFLX) and eBay (EBAY) to the extent that Lala has set up an online secondary market for used CDs. The company has more than 7 million CDs listed on its site.

I met with Lala co-founders Bill Nguyen and Billy Alvarado Monday to talk more about the site and the company’s plans. The two discussed how there’s still demand for physical CDs since there’s still a lot of confusion about digital music. Sure, lots of people may own iPods but many iPod owners are just importing their music collections onto their computers and digital music players. So the CD is far from dead..."

So, access to 7 million CDs for $1.00 each plus $0.75 shipping sounds like it could be interesting for people still interested in getting their hands on actual CDs by legal means...

just buy the god damn albums. I have ~1500 actual CDs and wouldn't trade a single one.

I've been doing it for a while, and it's a really awesome system. I usually only use it for the lesser-known albums that I can't find good seeds for on torrent sites, but the waits are always really short.
