Has anyone else been pissed with milk lately? Aside from it being $$? It seems like my milk will only last like three days tops, regardless of expiration date. IT goes bad waaay faster than I can drink it, even when I only get a half gallon and make sure to have at least one bowl of cereal a day. Does anyone else have this problem? Could my refrigerator be retarded?

We go through about 3 gal/wk. No problems. At least not consistant problems. There have been a time or two when I went ahead and got milk at a gas station or convenience shop and I guess they didn't have the fridge cold enough since we noticed it was bad as soon as we opened it.

Refrigerator problem? Try putting a thermometer in there and making sure it's as cold as it should be.

When I buy half gallons, they seem to go bad faster than when I buy full gallons. I've looked at the expiration dates, and the full gallons seem to have later dates.

When I lived in the dorm, my milk seemed to go bad after a few days, which I attributed to temperature problems. So it's likely that your fridge is too warm. Is it a regular fridge or a mini? The minis don't hold temperature as well.

I always get it different places, wherever I happen to be. I'm thinking it must be my fridge, which is regular sized. But everything else in this apartment is going to crap so it might as well too.

Fucking hell. I just checked it and some turd had the coldness set to .5, instead of the recommended 3.5. And the scale goes up to like 8. I bet it was my landlord, he's been an ass lately.

I get the ultrapasteurized milk in cartons...its tasty and I swear it lasts forever. but yeah, its like $4 for a half gallon

Ooh, and actually, if you go to the cooking isle you can get cartons of milk that dont need to be refrigerated till u open them. but they're $$ too...

Carton is best if you care about nutrition. But yeah, for flavor, those glass bottles from mapleview farms are the shit.

If you're having problems with it going bad, consider buying the "ultra-pasteurized" milk instead of just pasteurized.

I buy the Mapleview (?) milk from Harris Teeter in the glass bottles by the quart, I don't drink a ton of milk and it lasts longer than milk in plastic or paper cartons. The ultra pasteurized stuff is good too.

I was drinking organic milk for awhile, then decided the benefit wasn't worth the price and switched to Maple View (still hormone free or whatever) to support the local guys.

I'm on a bulking diet. I drink it with my many meals to make sure i get enough protein and calories. Plus, I like milk.

Alot of organic products are lies because they're stamped by companies that don't carry strict federal laws. A few brands do but I can't remember which ones.

Get milk that is in a non-see through container. Light has damaging effects on milk and rids it of most of it's nutrients (as if pasteurization doesn't). Anyway that might be it. Definitely check your fridge temperature though too.

I've experienced the same milk woes... I've essentially stopped buying it. That way when I do buy the occasional Sam's Club gallon it gets consumed by the house in record time. A lot of our milk has gone sour before the date indicated as well... I added some to my oatmeal one morning and thought it tasted a little odd because I had purchased different/cheaper oats. However, the fairly new milk was already spoiled Anyway... I didn't feel like reading the whole thread, so those are my thoughts & experiences. I wish there were something we could do about it!!! (Milk in Asheville is SO MUCH CHEAPER! It's crazy paying $4/gal for milk!!! No wonder America is so unhealthy... Beer & Soda are the cheapest things to drink!! /rant

I've heard that the nutrients don't stand up well to light too, was considering trying to get some in a paper carton next time and see if the taste is any different or if it stays good longer as added benefits. I usually don't drink enough to use a whole bottle before it goes bad, but I'm not seeing it go bad in a ridiculously short amount of time though...
