...not lazy people.

There's your generic thug living in my apartment complex and he ALWAYS parks in the handicapped spots. He is very clearly NOT handicapped, merely lazy. It's really starting to piss me off that he can't be bothered to walk the ten feet to a legal spot. Can I call the police on him? Priess and the towing company won't do anything. Advice?

Well, there ARE two of them, so that'd negate that suggestion. I'm not that lazy either.

Oh he has no tag or placard. And I've seen him mosey on right out of his car. He is in no way handicapped. My only concern would be that he would somehow know I had called the cops and he and his thug buddies would trash my car in retaliation.

Haha, but if you're mentally handicapped (i.e. down syndrome) you're not allowed to drive anyway.

not all handicapped people are visibly handicapped. People with heart, liver, and kidney problems may look able, but can not walk long distances. This warrants them a handicap plate/placard.

I've used my grandfather's placard before....

Call the cops...it isn't like they are going to walk up to your doorway with him and be like this is the person who told on you!

We called the cops several times because the neighborhood kids would be in the playground (right outside) until 2 am and throwing basketballs at our door. The parents knew it was us b/c we were the new people and it wasn't any of them. They got all mad and said stuff such as, "If they got a problem with our kids they need to tell us." We had told them several times before that we had a sleeping baby and that the loud boom of a basketball on our door followed by screaming kids doesn't help. We also told them that no matter how fat she is, the 12 year old isn't a viable supervisor for kids on the playground. It did no good to call the cops because they either had a scanner or the people at the front side called the others to warn them. Then you just heard, "Demitri, Laquicka, Dontrell, get yo' asses in here now!" And when the people downstairs vacated and left some food in the fridge with the intent to get it later, they figured it was open shop. It doesn't matter if the door wasn't locked, the brats had no right.

But, call the cops.

Better yet, help 'em out and spray a huge ass handicap symbol on their car.

Seriously, my stepmother was half-paralyzed due to childhood polio and refused to park in handicap spaces when she was able to walk. Only when she broke her hip and knee did she park there. So, these lazy jerks need to park 3 blocks away. /Soapbox

You know what I hate?

When people drive around the Walmart parking lot for ten minutes instead of parking in the back and walking.

Agreed and furthermore, their fat asses are the ones that really NEED to park further away and get off their lazy asses so they might not be so fat.

Hey let's give fatties handicap stickers so they NEVER have a chance at burning those calories.

Ain't America grrrrrrreat?!

Actually our apartment is good about towing people in the handicap spots, and towing cars without permits and not parked in visitor's section. Let me have the god damn spot I pay for bitches!

Supposedly our complex tows, but I called the towing company that's sign is here and they had never heard of us. Gg Priess.

But yeah, to reiterate, the guy is TOTALLY not handicapped in any way other than being a lazy negro dude. I've seen him get out of his car and mosey on over to his first floor apartment (doesn't even have to walk up three flights of stairs!). And he has ZERO form of handicapped signage. No tag, no little hanging thing. Been parking in that spot for months, never over night I've noticed, so I'm wondering if he even lives here. Generally I'll get up and go to class in the morning and when I get back in the afternoon his broke ass Honda is still sitting there.

I wrote down his info and will call the cops next time he is parked there.

I can understand parking there if it's for a second to run in and grab something you forgot or get a friend, but sitting there for ten hours every day is a little much.

They used to tow like crazy out here, but I don't think anyone has gotten towed in the past year and a half. It sucks to get back here at 2am and not have any open spaces when half the cars in the lot don't have a parking sticker. That guy with the white accord annoys me too...

A little known fact..

unless a spot has a State issued handicap parking sign above it, anyone can park there and not get in trouble. It doesn't matter if there is the handicap logo painted in the space. Sometimes there is a sign, but its not the State issued one.

It's gotta look like that. Or the smaller version.

Otherwise, park away. No one can legally tow you.

http://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/BySection/Chapter_20/GS_20-37.6.pdf

All of it kinda applies, but head to section d if you wanna get to the chase.

http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/BySection/Chapter_136/GS_136-30.pdf

That's the uniform sign legislation. Section c talks about parking lots. Even on private property, the sign MUST have a maximum fine listed AND the GS 20-37.6.

My roommate is a Raleigh police officer and constantly points out handicap signs that he couldn't do anything about if someone parked there 'illegally'. Our apartment complex has a bunch of nice wooden signs that just have the logo, and he can't do anything if someone not handicap parks there.

There's an angry handicapped lady at our local Wal-Mart who calls the cops and parks behind someones car she thinks isn't handicapped. So the police will sit out there and approach anyone who comes back to their car or parks and gets out to prove they have a valid tag etc.

hilarity ensues.

I didnt read this whole thread, but I do have to wonder also about the overweight people getting handicapped permits.

I understand it's harder to walk and your weight literally crushes your feet when you do so, but I strongly think that eliminating yet another source of calorie-burning (walking the extra few feet/yards/many yards) is not a good thing to pursue. I think it's okay that it's allowed, because there may be some who can't avoid the obesity-related problems that they've incurred, but I DO think we need some kind of program in America to STOP THE FAT.

No pills, no instant skinny, just STOP EATING SO MUCH. START EXCERCISING. Park at the opposite end of the parking lot to get in a little extra bonus excercise, rather than the front/center spot. I just don't understand when they have the power to CHANGE, but /they/ would just rather sit around and EAT. I DONT GET IT, BOB.

I parked in a handicap spot two years ago at wolf village to unload some stuff from camping out for the UNC game. I was gone just long enough to throw the tent and chairs in my room and sure enough there was the campus po-po behind my truck when I got back. Those fuckers are fast. Luckily she didn't give me a ticket though.

My fiance would make her cry and have her charged with false imprisonment, if she refused to let him leave. There is nothing worse than having someone harass you because you don't look handicap.

My infant nephew also has a trach and needs a handicap spot (incase of a breathing problem and the travel equipment isn't enough). You can't necessarily look at him and tell he has the trach.
