maintenence meetings have ended and they haven't changed anything with the bcs. its getting rediculous. we just had another champion that didn't even deserve to be in the final game.
Quote : | "NEW ORLEANS -- BCS officials concluded three days of meetings Wednesday with no major changes being made to the system used to crown a college football champion.
The commissioners from the 11 major conferences and Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White discussed a wide range of Bowl Championship Series issues, including the standings and automatic qualification standards, and decided to stand pat, said Southeastern Conference spokesman Charles Bloom.
"The commissioners handled the business of the BCS and general maintenance of the system," Bloom said. "It was a very productive meeting, but there were no major changes."
Last season, the BCS produced another controversial championship game. When the final BCS standings were released, Florida jumped over Michigan and into the title game against Ohio State. The debate over whether the Gators or Wolverines should have played the Buckeyes raged for weeks.
Then the Wolverines lost 32-18 to Southern California in the Rose Bowl and the Gators beat the Buckeyes 41-14 to win the national championship, and the controversy subsided.
Michigan's nearly reaching the title game brought about renewed calls for the BCS to make only conference champs eligible to play for the national championship.
Bloom said the topic came up during the meetings, but there was no support for banning non-conference champions from the title game.
Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema recently called for the BCS to change its rule allowing a maximum of two teams per conference in the five big-money bowl games. The Badgers finished 12-1 and ranked No. 7 in the nation last season but could not play in the BCS because Ohio State and Michigan qualified.
Bloom said removing the two-team cap was talked about during the meetings, but there was no support." |
why do they continue to keep this terrible system. What is holding it in place? how would money be lost in a playoff? what are some other things keeping a playoff from happening?4/26/2007 3:10:57 AM |

wouldnt a playoff require some teams to play more games?
what if some kid in college thats projected to go in the first round has an injury...is the NCAA gonna pay him for lost wages? 4/26/2007 3:12:21 AM |

you're right.....I mean why even allow bowl games to be played? what if a kid gets injured in a bowl game, who's going to pay him for his lost wages, I mean just ask willis mcgahee.....bowl games are dangerous so lets do away with them....in fact why allow the regular season to be extended to 12 games, what if a kid gets injured in the 12th game, who's going to pay him for his lost wages? lets cut back to 11 games......but wait, what if a kid gets injured in game 11, better cut the season back to 10.....while we're at it lets do away with the NCAA basketball tournament because what if a top ten pick gets injured during the tournament, who's going to pay him for his lost wages?4/26/2007 3:32:07 AM |

and what if he plays in a bowl game and, due a ton of exposure and a fucking awesome game, gets a huge "wage increase"? you know, like personally beating USC with a few seconds left on the clock? then what?4/26/2007 9:38:56 AM |
