Depends...you talking about a system that has been properly evacuated? What about all the peripheral parts/issues?
1. What caused the compressor to fail to begin with?
2. Did the compressor clutch or something external fail, or was the failure internal?
3. Are you planning on changing out the accumulator and the throttling device (orifice tube or expansion valve)?
4. Have you considered that, if the compressor's failure was internal, your condenser is most likely trashed?
If you're sure that it's going to be a simple swap, and you don't plan on replacing anything else, you will at the very least need to get a shop to evacuate the system. Once you've done the swap, you will need to pull a vacuum on the system for AT LEAST 30 minutes, and for at least an hour if you don't swap out the receiver/dryer or accumulator. Oh, and you need to make sure that you put the correct quantity of the correct type of AC system oil in the system prior to bolting up the hoses and whatnot. then put the compressor back on.
