Hurricane season kicks off in about a month, so far they (NOAA) are calling for a "very active" season.

17 names storms
9 Hurricanes
5 Major Hurricanes

As stated earlier some NCSU mets nailed the hurricane forecast last season. We barely had any hurricanes. I wonder if they will be spot on this year? Maybe an east coast landfall? The atlantic has been overdue for a biggie.

They say that shit every year...they really have no idea. Meterology = the only job you can be wrong most of the time at and never get fired.

I don't care though...if I want to know the weather, I'll just walk outside.

^you don't know what you're talking about. everybody knows outlooks over several months are usually wrong but in 3 day periods they are almost always right.

Well, as an example. The weather forecast yesterday for where I am today was rain and ugliness. It's most definitely blue sky and pretty! And I am not complaining!

But really, I know most of the time short term stuff is fairly accurate, especially with temperature trends and whatnot, it's just the whole 'chance of rain' vagueness that gets to me. No, really, I'm bullshitting, you guys over in Jordan do a great job. I'm leaving now.

If you knew anything about forecasting then you wouldn't be saying the played out "..only job they can be wrong and still keep...blah blah". Trust me, if a forecaster blew forecasts frequently with no sign of improvement then they wouldn't be doing it much longer. Also, forecasters keep the "chance of rain" thing in there to cover their ass.

Personally I think weather should be more about education and less about predicting the future. But that's me.

As for this hurricane season I am rather jaded after last year's overhyping and the lack of hurricane lovin' that the east coast has received recently. And yes, this thread still sucks.

^^should that even count, since its a subtropical storm? I mean isn't that closer to a Nor'easter than a Hurricane?

And I really hope we have another slow hurricane season. The last thing we need are the alarmists like Al Gore trying to show us how this is all the fault of C02.

every year i am shocked at the people that want hurricanes to hit the coast

the property damage that occurs, we all pay for it thanks to the federal government that feels that it is a good idea to insure these coastal properties

you cant rationalize the cost in lives

you people

probably more like 13 named, 7 hurricanes, 3 major, with 1 of the 7 possibly making landfall in NC

I don't really know. they used name # 1 so I guess we have to. techincally it is organized like a tropical storm...with min wind requirements.

I'm really counting on a couple of tropical systems to make their way to western NC to put us back on track with rainfall.

our state economy has been struggling. we need a good powerful 4 or huge 3 but not like floyd with the flooding but we need some good damage.

the ones that hit the gulf coast don't help the economy. they mess up the gas making thingamajigs

The only thing I like about hurricanes is that it can break long stretches of droughts we get here every once and a while during the summer. Plus I like cloudy rainy days.

It wasn't really that good for kites. Really gusty, shifty winds; not to mention the rain.

After the erroneous predictions from last season it is difficult to have faith in any prediction put forward this year.

I predict they won't even make the playoffs again.
