And they had a committee testimony thing on (led by Sen. Dorgan-(D) where the VP of Halliburton was defending the company for having a subsidiary that did contracts for Iran. Basically, to skirt US laws about supporting a state supporter of terrorism, they incorporated their Iranian based operations into skeleton corporation at a post offfice box in the Cayman Islands. Then they continued to operate their subsidiary as normal from their offices in Dubai, providing a US based corporation to trade with Iran and evade US sanctions. They even reported the contract revenues on the Halliburton books.
I really just couldn't believe the gall of these people. 5/1/2007 2:57:24 PM |

It wasn't just that, but the flagrant flouting of US sanctions and supporting one of our supposed enemies and members of the "Axis of Evil". Halliburton is heavily an oil/energy services corporation, so by assisting the Iranians with their oil field development, they are assisting the funding of terrorism, military proliferation and regional instability. Thats essentially what the terrorism funding expert at the hearing said.

Perhaps. But if their actions result in increased Iranian oil production then they are bringing down gasoline prices.
That said, sanctions don't work, so I have no moral objection to anyone, even Halliburton, breaking them. Which only leaves the benefits which mankind will enjoy from the increased oil production. 5/1/2007 4:33:16 PM |

being that they are also a prime no-bid DoD contractor, what part of this don't you understand?
it's all around good business practice to try and create demand in your primary market.
