"Twenty years ago, the NCAA made one of the most significant rules changes in its history when it instituted the 3-point shot.

In the year of the 20-year anniversary, the NCAA men's basketball rules committee decided the line needed a makeover.

So, beginning with the 2008-09 season, assuming the measure is approved May 25 by the Playing Rules Oversight Committee, the line will move back a full foot to 20 feet, 9 inches."

It's about time. 19 feet 9 inches is a layup.

Another foot doesn't seem like much, but its a step in the right direction.

The pro's line is 22 feet at the cornets out to 23' 9" at the top. I think eventually, they should move the college line closer to that.

The elite shooters won't be affected much because they often shoot from 2-3 feet behind the line anyway.

This will mainly effect the shitty shooters who become enamored with the 3 just because its so close.

ie this won't affect costner but it might affect fells and no doubt it will affect gavin grant(maybe it will help him by driving more).

I like it, it will take some more luck out of the college game.

It also opens things up inside a little more for post players since you cant collapse down as easily.

^thats 3 inches back, what would be the point?

The way the game is now, athletic guys can go from the paint to block a 3 attempt in a step and a half. Remember Hakim Warrick at the end of the title game 4 years ago?

This will give good shooters more space and make double teams less on the perimeter less likely since they know they have more ground to make up, hopefully improving the offense's flow.

Especially in the Big 10. I don't know how those motherfuckers can play 48-46 games every night. As Bill Simmons said, watching a Big 10 game is like watching a WNBA game with dunking.

Exactly. This is great for good teams, who have better athletes and a better all-around game.

It's going to harm the shitty teams who hope to pull the occasional upset by getting lucky 3s to fall.

Doubt it hurts Fells any either. His problem isn't range, it's just consistency in general.

Grant...yeah, possibly.

The "coaches behavior" rule will not affect d00k or UNC.

Neither will the 3 point line. All 19'9" shots still count as 3 for them.

About 20 years. The line was officially adopted in 1986.

Some conferences had it earlier. In '83, the ACC had the 3-point shot but the NCAA tournament didn't.

on pti today they said there's another group who wants to move it back (i think) 9'' and make it the same as international play. that's what they should do, imo.
