Shouldn't be after tonight, MVP's perform post-season. What a shitty lack-luster performance....

MVP is about regular season.

Or else Nash would have none.

They need to just rename it REGULAR SEASON MVP. The Finals MVP is for the best player in the postseason.

I think the NHL has an award for MVP of the entire playoffs, not just the finals

I think the NBA should do something like that

Baron would no doubt be the frontrunner, with Jackson and Luol Deng behind him

I'll admit the Deng post in the other thread was shitty

One of my worst

But he is averaging 26 and 9 in the playoffs

Haha Kobe wasn't even fucking close. You all can shut it now.

2 votes. That is funny.

But what the hell do the ballot holders know anyway. Obviously they need to be spending more time reading the brilliant postings on TWW.

OMG, it should definitely be Stephen Jackson for MVP.

He went 7/8 from three that night. It's all about the playoffs and nothing else.

But seriously, we probably associate MVP to = clutch, and the reality most of the time is that for every one Michael Jordan or Reggie Jackson type MVP's, you have 3 dozen Dirks, A-Rods, Mickelsons, Marinos, etc. Players who simply do not/did not produce when it matters most.

Some people just arent clutch, but the million dollar question is, should that be a factor in the MVP voting? Basically, because Dirk was so bad in the postseason, does that completely negate what he did in the first 82 regular season games?

no, and until the rules say that the postseason counts, then the best player on the best regular season team should probably win it

course NBA Finals MVP is clearly the more coveted award

Dirk's number's weren't all that special anyway.

I'm not all that impressed with 25, 9 & 3.4 on one of the higher scoring teams in the league.

He was simply the best player on the best team during the regular season.

Even based on his regular season its kinda tough to justify Dirk for the MVP.

He's a top notch player but MVP is a pretty tough argument to make.

As I have said before, the MVP is a REGULAR SEASON award, and should have nothing at all to do with the post season. It should be voted on after the last game of the season, and all ballots should be in before the first playoff game.

There is already an award for the best player in the post season, it's called FINALS MVP!

^it is voted then, but as someone else said, his numbers weren't that great, and he was rarely clutch. the media completely favre'd him to the MVP this year.

so the last three MVP's have all been Mavericks at one point in their career.

That's about the extent of my NBA knowledge

^last 3 awards handed out went to players that played in Dallas, but the last 3 winners (meaning different players) haven't all played for dallas. But I see your point.

I was waiting for the tripe give the mvp to robert horry or something reply, I wasn't saying the playoffs are all that matter or even matter at all for mvp

my point was the playoffs clearly show Dirk is not valuable enough to his team to put them on their back and win a playoff series, he also doesn't show up when it counts and he doesn't instill any toughness

Yeah, the Mavericks would never be able to win a playoff series with Dirk.

Ever.

To be fair, most of the ballot holders are codgy old white men who barely even follow the NBA.

This explains why so many ridiculous MVP's have been given out in recent years.... Nash, Dirk, and Malone were all incorrect choices.

Not really... most of the NBA voters are OLD and do not really like the NBA.

Most people like the NFL.

Also its a lot easier to keep up with a player during the NFL season as there are only a few games.

Not many people who even cover the NBA bother watching the regular season games.
