I was considering taking Ma 501 w/ him (Assuming a guy here...). Is he any good? The last thing I need is yet another horrible math professor. I don't care if he's hard, I just want to know if he can teach well. Thanx. 5/4/2007 2:30:45 PM |

He will not spoon feed you the material. Look to work out the material yourself in part. 5/4/2007 11:47:53 PM |

Fauntleroy is horrible. Don't let his Morgan Freeman-esque appearance fool you. He ruined Calc II for me when my instructor went to Prague for a symposium. I'd hate to see him with an upper level math if he couldn't even teach Taylor series worth a damn. 5/5/2007 12:08:36 AM |

This happened when I took 405 with him:
Student: I don't really understand Vector Spaces. What is NOT a vector space? Fauntleroy: A HORSE *pause* Student: Uh...okay. What else? Fauntleroy: A HORSE. 5/5/2007 9:10:35 PM |

^^but if we set the horse to zero then it is trivially a vector space, hmm I guess only a dead horse is a vector space.
Fauntleroy is actually better in higher level courses, I had him in a low level course and a high level course, there is not much comparison really. Frankly, I wish I had taken some previous courses with him that I didn't due to my less than fond memories of the lower level course. Then again I liked the lower level course also, mostly because he would tell the engineers it was "just algebra" and then look at them like hey stupid work it out for your own damn self. He may not have intended that environment but I got a good chuckle out of it.
The real question is if ma 501 is hard enough to be interesting, I'm not sure. My advice would be to try it out for a lecture or two, if it'll be good it'll be good from the start. 5/5/2007 11:37:05 PM |
