for the 2nd time I have ressurected a boat.
first time I had a lot of help from 2 friends who are decent mechanics to get the pinta running in my bayliner that hadn't been run in 7years... that required: plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel pump, water pump, carb rebuild and engine flush... it was a progressive thing because every time we got something to work it unveiled the next thing that was wrong...
Sold that boat when I moved to MD because the house I live in already had a boat...
a boat that didn't run when I moved in...
First boat was an I/O... this one has a 1985 Mercury V6 150 outboard(2 stroke) on it...
rebuilt the carb, 6barrels total and rebuilt the fuel pump and she fired right up... we were quoted $300 for the job... after having done it, $300 would have been completely and totally worth it because the 12 nuts holding the carb on and all the associated hoses were a COMPLETE PITA But my roomate would have just given the boat away before putting any more money into it and I wanted a boat for the season so a little effort and we have one again
felt great to hear it fire and glug along. 5/7/2007 10:11:36 PM |

nothing is more rewarding than hearing a motor you just built from scratch.
then to watch it blow up 1 year later by your best friend

yep, it's a nice feeling. i think my best feeling was hearing the first motor i ever completely rebuilt run. that or the first fuel injected motor into a carbed vehicle motor swap since i SUCK at wiring. 5/7/2007 10:16:13 PM |

nah I don't have any pictures... which really sucks because I just got my 10mp camera and it was a pretty freaking involved process... but it was done with the boat IN the water since we don't have a trailor... and very dirty work on top of that so I probably would have been concerned for my camera anyways...

i personally like buying a car that would otherwise be scrapped and then fixing it on the cheap and driving it and shit. 5/7/2007 10:19:19 PM |

haha, nice. well grats! Wish i had a boat Grew up with a boat up until the first gulf war when we were forced to register it and get all this crazy shit put on it per US navy request/demands.
^i would imagine its more of a challenge with a boat, cause if you screw up your ass is swimming home

^^ one of the 2 mechanics that helped me rebuild the volvo had resurected the 1986 VW golf that I pimped last summer... that little beast was a peice of work, he paid $50 for it... I sold it for him for $500 5/7/2007 10:22:13 PM |
