So Im thinking of taking a semester off, you know get some money saved up and what not.
So does anyone know if museums hire full time positions? Or any suggestions of another type of full time job that would be a good semester off of school work that could move to a part time job once I start back? 5/8/2007 1:25:08 PM |

I guess I'm looking more for people who have done this and stayed in Raleigh. Like any recomendations of places to work, other than retail type stuff. 5/8/2007 1:28:52 PM |

the museums do hire for full time positions. They tend to be pretty rare. Go to the different museum (art, history, natural science, exploris) websites and see what they have. With out a degree it'll be hard to find non-retail/painting/restaurant/UPS job. Look in the independent and at the state gov websites.

you could try and get a job working at a bank and then see if they'll let you only work T & Th or M,W,F once you start school again. Of course you would have to arrange your school schedule accordingly. My wife used to work at a bank and they had a couple people do that where she worked. Well, actually one person only worked from 11-2 (cover lunch shifts) every day of the week and had classes in the morning and afternoon 5/8/2007 1:53:21 PM |

You pretty much have to have a Masters Degree in Public History to work in a museum, even some of the laborous positions. They always need volunteers tho.
I second the bank job. I used to work peak time (that is their version of part time) at the State Employees Credit Union and they were very fexible when it came to my hours. 5/8/2007 3:57:19 PM |
