The "new" album by Elliot Smith came out today.
The entire album is available to stream on myspace. From what I've heard so far, it is pretty damn good. Then again, I'd expect nothing less.

It is sad and depressing music, but that doesn't mean he isn't brilliant.

jennifer chiba stabbed elliott....um yeah, i've heard that one before

but seriously, the new album, new moon, is composed of material recorded between 94-97 which falls during his kill rock stars era. im really excited because i consider his best work (either/or) to come from those sessions. and most of these tracks are unreleased.

dreamworks owns elliott's later stuff up to the 'white album' which was unfinished at the time of his death. from his sister's updates on the sweetadeline fansite it appears like those recordings wont be released any time soon if at all.

I've read the reports and the different sides on his death. It sounds an awful lot like murder to me.

a. She just happened to have locked herself in another room in the same apartment at the time of death, due to a recent "argument."

b. His suicide note was written on a post-it note. His name was mispelled

c. No hesitation wounds. Plus he had two stab wounds, through his shirt. Cuts on his hands and chest, possibly defense wounds.

d. Chiba pulled the knife out before calling 911. So her prints mean diddly I guess?

e. Last and foremost, WHO THE FUCK STABS THEMSELVES IN THE TORSO WHEN COMMITING SUICIDE?!?!

/rant

^ I agree. My favorite of his is X/O by a mile, but I definitely love his earlier more lo/ fi material also. I liked Basement on a Hill, but so far, I'm enjoying this album more.

I'm not really to amazed that there would be this many quality tracks of his unreleased. Kinda makes me wonder how much of his unreleased old/new stuff is out there.
