Oh... Has he finally realized how stupid he sounded railing against China, Imports, and Outsourcing during what is best described as a booming American economy with somewhat tight labor markets?

Nice to see he had something to fall back on.

^ As I understand it, Dobbs criticisms are based on the fact that the average, middle-class American is getting squeezed financially due to these problems. The average American is making less $$$$ (adjusting for inflation) and is less likely to afford healthcare in today's market. Conversely, the top 1% of the nation economically are earning more and more. Basically the rich are getting richer, while everyone else is getting poorer.

I don't recall whether Dobbs is against trading with China, the imports/exports defficit, and outsourcing, but he is pointing out that such practices have a net negative effect on the average American.

So no, Dobbs is not out of line for "railing" against these practices. The consolidation of wealth by the wealthy is not a healthy practice for our nation. Unless you feel his numbers are wrong, which I doubt, I imagine your negative reaction is based on how Dobbs has gone about raising this issue and where he places the blame.

Nope, my objection is that his numbers are wrong. In every instance he has twisted the statistics or taken them out of context to argue the middle class is being squeezed. The numbers do not support such an assertion, not even a little bit. The problem was that the average American was predisposed to believe him by the 2001 recession, so ever though he was wrong he was able to win followers. Regretfully, since his following was based upon lies and half-truthes, he couldn't keep them, hence his fall-back plan! Railling against the Religious Right! It's no longer China, Inports, and Globalization that are ruining this country, most people just don't believe it anymore, it's the religious right!!!

Dobbs is a fucking idiot.

His degree should honestly be revoked.

He knows what he says is blatantly incorrect, he just says it because he thinks he can win the appeal of uneducated Americans by pretending to fight for them.

Absolutely disgraceful in my opinion.

Reference?

Remind me why I should take your word for it that Dobbs is the one that has it all wrong. One of the two of you wrote a book about the topic, so I'm more inclined to think he's the one that did his research...

read lonesnarks post and that echoes my sentiments.

He is absolute scum. I cant stand people who try to "fight for the average american" when they are only doing it to advance their political or financial career.

It's disgusting to me.

How the fuck can you argue that international trade is bad for the economy? We'd all be better off if we just erased this protectionist mindset.

This country already has more handouts, social programs, etc than necessary.

Personally I dont give a fuck if everyone can't drive a Dodge Stratus or a have the newest cell phone on the market.

Everyone in this country can eat and sleep. That should be fucking enough. The rich shoudlnt be forced to pay for the poor's technology.

Lazy people want too much, i think they should all be automatically signed up for the military or deported before they bankrupt the country.

If you aren't worth shit then you aren't worth shit. Sorry, move along.

Wow, what an outstanding reason to believe him.

Clearly, he wrote the fucking book to make money. The book only sells because he spits bullshit propoganda that not even he can possibly believe.

He is no better than a crack dealer.

The middle class is earning more than ever.
http://www.bls.gov/

At the same time, America's manufacturing base is producing more than ever (about twice as much as we produced in 1991).
http://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/g17/current/

And trade with China has produced a substantial boost in American living standards, particularly among America's poorest, thanks to Chinese imports. It is estimated that WalMart alone has saved Americans hundreds of billions of dollars (link would be to cato.org) which they can now spend on medical care, schooling, or maybe a new $20 DVD player.

Quote :
"The rich shoudlnt be forced to pay for the poor's technology. "

Well, actually, Dobbs efforts could best be described as warring against the poor, which need cheap imports to survive, in order to gain job security for factory workers which usually enjoy earnings above the national average. This, of course, is a false problem since factory workers can find new jobs; the poor cannot recoup the loss of their purchasing power anywhere else.

Dobbs is one of those guys who is against people making things cheaply so that we can purchase things cheaply.

Lord knows poor people hate products that can be purchased cheaply!!!

And yes American manufacturing is the strongest its ever been. We have lost the shitty manufacturing jobs and replaced them with specialized manufacturing jobs that require more skill and *gasp* pay higher wages.

I allow for facts to support my political and economic beliefs.

Dobbs tells blatant lies in order to win favor and profit off the American people.

He is a dirty fellow. Unless of course he actually believes his nonsense. Then he's just a whacko.

I believe the man has a PHD in Economics for god's sake. It's not humanly possible for him to be so ignorant about this stuff. How in the hell can international trade HURT America?

Where in the hell is the proof? Manufacturing is stronger than ever for god's sake. The American economy is rolling despite some peoples efforts to hold it down with this backwards ass reasoning.

Erios You should really get informed on the issues before you support a lunatic. It doesn't reflect highly on your personal intellect.

How can I not insult someone whose stated goal in life is to make money off the stupidity of average Americans by feeding them lies?

Speaking of informed, you aren't. At absolutely no point in this thread have I declared my support for Dobbs and his assertions regarding the "War on the Middle-class." I attempted to paraphrase and clarify Dobbs' position on this issue. Given my slight grasp of economics on a national scale I freely admit I need a lot more time to review this debate before taking sides.

However, I take offense to people like you who condemn and insult those with opposing viewpoints. You haven't even included a factual basis for doing so. LoneSnark is the only one who posted something of substance. I'll take you and your derrogatory diatribes seriously when there's something of merit included.

Until then you're just another troll....

I wouldnt know where to begin with Dobbs.

He thinks trade hurts America when clearly it benefits to a great degree.

I dont have all the fancy graphs off hand nor do i care to research them when im drunk.

Its just plain logic. Trade is mutually beneficial. If it wast mutually beneficial it wouldnt occur!

But they are not; the poor make the rich richer voluntarily in exchange for what the rich have to offer. The poor are perfectly capable of buying goods and services from their poor neighbors, but since most of it would be crap they give their money to the rich.

I find it funny how Lou spends the beginning of the article talking about this topic on a brought basis but then spends paragraph 4 to the end of the article, about two thirds of the total piece, railing against illegal immigration.

How am I pwnt?

I understand the fallacies of Lou Dobbs claims.

Erios doesn't.

If you have a question I'll do my best to explain it. Otherwise I can make the simple claim that the USA has benefitted greatly from international trade. That's factual information. If you want to discredit that claim, you are the one who needs to present evidence, not me...

It's not a diatribe when everyone in the academic world has refuted his whacko theories.

Creationism has more credence than Dobbs extremist viewpoints.

Germany imposes ban on Tom Cruise

Quote :
"Germany has banned the makers of Tom Cruise's new movie from filming at military sites in the country because the actor is a Scientologist.

The German defence ministry said Cruise has "publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult".

Scientology masquerades as a religion to make money, Germany said, but leaders of the church reject this.

Cruise's producing partner Paula Wagner said the star's own convictions had no relation to the film's content.

"Personal beliefs have absolutely no bearing on the movie's plot or themes," she said.

'Heroic and principled'

Scientology has been monitored in Germany in the belief that its activities are "directed against the free democratic order" in the country. "

Yeah the middle class always the old screw job.

Between the Republicans sucking corporate cock by creating loopholes and passing legislation that benefits their rich buddies; while the Democrats try to be "politically correct" and waste tax payer money giving the poor free handouts. The middle class is completely shitted on.
