My GF and I are thinking about getting her Mom an MP3 player + Yahoo! Music Subscription (or comparable) for mother's day.

I don't think we want to go the iPOD route, (overpriced) we want a subscription service thats easy to operate and has unlimited transfer to the player for a monthly fee. I am trying to figure out the best service and the best player thats compatible with that service.

Yahoo Music is pretty awesome...they actually use a lot of machine learning algorithms to exactly focus on the kind of music you want.

what is a good player that an old person could figure out?

I am guessing that with an old person, it's figuring out the software to download music/sync that's going to be more complicated than the player itself.

it cant get more simple than itunes and an ipod.. really. ive had had a few different mp3 players and the ipod/itunes is the most mom friendly of the bunch by far. the ipod is simple, itunes is simple, and buying music for it is simple.

shuffles start at $80...

iPod shuffle is pretty easy to operate (press play), but buying music for it could get $$$.

Rhapsody isn't terrible and Sansas are pretty nice.

Eh, if his old people are anything like my old people they have a lot of time on their hands and a lot of CD's. Many grandparents actually started buying CD's when record needles became harder to find.

I've never really had a problem with my Sansa. Any issue I've had boils down to Real being a horrible company and Rhapsody being questionable software.

It works a large amount of the time, but there are moments where (like with everything Real), you just want to shoot someone in the face.

they new wireless sansas are nice as hell

they use yahoo! music

I have a creative zen vision: m that I use with napster

napster's ok, but their UI is terrible - slow and bloated. plus I can't use it to send non-napster music to my mp3 player (wtf gay)
