It's a late 90s Camry. Do they still install these things for a nominal fee if you buy them at Best Buy/Circuit City? I understand that it's pretty easy to install and is probably a huge waste of money, so I'd just as easily hire any one of you to do it for me. Anyway, what should I be looking for in a CD player these days? Is MP3CD an accepted format yet? 5/13/2007 4:28:30 PM |

go to http://www.crutchfield.com spend $150 get an mp3 capable head unit. It will come with detailed instructions with pictures, and all of the harnesses you'd need, and spend 20 minutes switching things out.
hell, they have some now that are under $100.

^yeah, that's what I did. Mopar helped me a good bit with it, but the head unit was pretty easy, I was surprised. Just unplug the old, plug up the new and put it in it with its harness. I *think* I did have to do some wire splicing, but that may have just been because I put in some new speakers, even that was easy though, just match up the colors.
I got an mp3 too, it's worked out well. I don't know if I'd get the cheapest though, I've seen cheap ones be real bitchy about what cds they want to play.

You the free harness and install kit is only for head units over $100.
I got a kenwood excelon last summer that was one of the first with the USB port. I got tired of switching cds and worrying about only having a few new songs/albums to add to one, so I picked up an external notebook hdd and stashed that in the glove box. Now I can just add songs whenever I want, not worry about scratches, and I have everything right there with easy access, and nothing visible to get stolen. 5/14/2007 12:48:32 PM |

Just go to circuit; $150 will get you a cd player installed with an aux in that also plays mp3s.
