my razr fell off the 2nd story breezeway and broke in half. (screen disconnected from dialpad)

my service is with verizon and my contract ends in november. I have insurance on the phone, but I was planning on getting a new phone soon, and also getting rid of verizon because the service sucks where im moving to, and i wanna switch to alltel and get like a blackberry or something.

anyone know the cost of breaking a cellular contract a few months early? or whether verizon would let me get a different phone for the same value of the razr that just broke, with my insurance covering it and whatnot?

So that's why it went straight to voicemail when I called. Breaking contract will probably cost 100-200. Getting a different phone will probably depend on how cool they are.

Does anyone know if it is possible to switch contracts with someone? I want to go to Verizon, and I'm with Alltel. So if we assumed responsibility for each other's contracts, would the company's allow us to do that?

Can't you read your contract? From what I remember of mine, it's like $150 to break early, or just keep paying the monthly bills until time runs out, of course. Now that I think about it, you might be able to get off free since you're moving, especially if they don't have coverage up there.

Be warned that if you changed anything in your service plan, your contract was automatically extended a year after that point without telling you. I added internet to my plan and went to switch providers when my contract was up and still had to pay the early termination fee because they did this (without telling me).

They always find a way to charge you the fee, so I basically expect to pay it if I'm switching services.

Unless you're with Alltel, in which case you can always change your plan without having to change your contract.

btw, Alltel's plan for a blackberry/treo/Q is the best I could find: $90/month for unlimited data, txt, and incircle with 500 minutes

im looking at that, but without the mycircle and the 7 pm thing

so its like 70/month

im thinking about just paying the $175 to get rid of verizon, then get the blackberry 8703 with alltel

just get a new phone for $50 since you have insurance, that is cheaper than breaking the contract

for future reference, there is a whole cottage industry set up on the web surrounding cell phone swapping. do a google search for "cell phone swap" and you'll find pages that put consumers in touch with each other to swap service contracts, providers, etc.
