I recently had some money stolen from my dorm room - I live in international housing overseas while I am studying abroad. The money was taken from my medicine cabinet...I had it stashed because I needed to pay rent, but couldnt withdraw the entire amount from my bank account at once.

The thing is, I am almost positive that I know who stole the money - my neighbor. She was the only person who knows where the money was (she saw it when I took a bit of it out to repay her for something) and I never leave the room unlocked for long periods of time...just a trip to the bathroom, etc.

She has done some dubious things in the past, but I never suspected she would steal that much money, especially since we had been kinda friends for the few months we have been here. However, the fact that she knew where the money was, was hard up for cash, and several other small things mean that all signs point to her taking it...bitch.

Problem is, I dont have solid proof. I'm sure stuff like this has happened to some of you before, how have you gone about confronting someone when you dont have solid, 100% proof?

she probably knows she is a suspect, so it should be easy to get in her panties. if you can get her to have sex with you, you can try asking these logically progressive questions.

you want it harder? (yes!)
you like it hard? (yes!!)
you like it rough? (yes!!!)
does it feel good? (yes!!!!)
are you gonna cum (yes!!!!!)
you like taking money? (yes!!!!!...uhh whattt)

there, now you have a confession.

I wonder... If a person feels guilty, a confession will not help them feel better. What you can do is go to her, cry a lot, and say someone stole your money and now you can't afford the rent, ask if she could help you out.

If she stole your money and feels any sort of remorse she might give some of it back to you at this point.

Then again, it just might not be her. Whenever I found a room open in my dorm I would always imagined others checking the medicine cabinet for drugs; imagine their surprise if they found your rent money instead?

tell that bitch that someone stole your money and the only other person that knew where said money other than you is her

give her the "im about to cut your head off and encase it in a bucket of concrete" look and tell her that you know she is hard up for money and ask her point blank if she knows anything about it.

then tell her that you are going to press charges if you find out who did it

lol.

on a serious note:

you have your mind made up. it's unlikely unless you are provided with significant evidence to the contrary that you will ever trust your neighbor again.

you can always get her fingerprints, but that's a little ridiculous. either way, cut it as a loss.

like somebody posted, you can confront, but she will likely deny.

Yeah, I have been in situations like this. You can confront them all you want, and they might even confess to you about it, but when it comes down to it...you are fucked and out money, they will deny it, and the friendship is screwed...hide your money better next time. I suggest putting the money in an envelope and then duct taping it under your desk, behind your closet, etc...

yep. I've been in a similar situation recently (it was a pet snake that disappeared), and I know who did it, but she denied everything.

you can try:
Quote :
"What you can do is go to her, cry a lot, and say someone stole your money and now you can't afford the rent, ask if she could help you out.
"

or

but I don't think either will work.

come to her in "fake" distress explaining that the money was for a special trip home and now you can't go. Watch her eyes carefully. If she looks away quickly and then back she did it. Generally means she's thinking of a response.

Someone not involved would reply instantly.

Let her know that if she hears anything to let her know. You're desperate to find out what happened to the money and for her to tell anyone she knows if they have the money it can be returned no questions asked.

That's a 50/50 shot on getting it back. But at least you'll know for sure if she took it. I've used this method and it's been 100% accurate everytime.

maybe try setting up a hidden cam and put a small amount in the same spot. maybe she or whoever took it is dumb enough to look in the same spot. that would provide you with some hard evidence, if you have the option of doing such a thing

Um, just choke her until she gives you the money. She can't go to the cops and tell them she stole the money.

Dude this sucks...good luck. You could call the police and see if they will fingerprint because really why else should her fingerprints be in your medi cabinet. And why would you let her see where your stash was? Especially since she has been dubious before!

Get a book on how to tell if someone is lying.
Pick a method.
Stick with it.
Figure out if she's lying.

Go from there.

Could be tough with language barriers though.

It was probably her, but do any other people have keys like maintenance people or dorm supervisors (they could know the rent is to high for a single withdrawl from a bank and suspect the U.S student may hide the money, or they may just steal from international students/go through there things).

I still don't leave cash in my apartment just because I know other people can "get in" when I'm not around.

Sit her down and say:

"Someone took money from my medicine cabinet"
......
"I know who did it too"
......
"If they dont put it back by tomorrow, I am going to kill them in their sleep"

You're probably never going to see that money again.

Either somebody else stole the money, and you'll never get it back, OR...

She stole it.

If she stole it, you've got three options:

1. Forget about the money and never speak to her again. Do not forgive her cause she will do this shit again.
2. Threaten her until she gives the money back. But I doubt you have this in you. You have to be prepared to back your threat up.
3. Do what that guy^ said.

The first course of action can be done no matter what. I mean, it would be sad if she didn't steal the money after all, but hey, whatever... The second course of action should only be done if you one hundred percent know that it's her--if you'd written down bill numbers you could search her shit and check for them possibly. You could try to set her up again, but the logistics on that are tricky. The third course is iffy--it's basically accusing her without accusing her, and she probably won't put the money back...and then you have to kill her in her sleep.

And, by the way, why can't you withdraw the entire rent amount at once? How high is your rent? I know you can't always get a large sum from the ATM, but you can most definitely go inside the bank and take out whatever you need. If you can't, your bank is fucked up even if it's overseas.

this thread seems to be heading towards the guilty until proven innocent angle.
