*note there was a jewish movement to have a jewish state in israel before ww2. ww2 and the holocaust just made it a successful movement and put some powerful players behind it.

iirc, it started gaining steam around 1900.

"Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly; he shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation."

Imagine world peace and prosperity if we just made all of the middle east a big fucking parking lot with crude oil wells.

I actually think this is an interesting question.

The wiki link would have us believe "tensions between the Jews and Arabs started to emerge after the 1880s," but I've heard people talk about these centuries and centuries of hate...

So exactly how much hate was there for these centuries and centuries? Or are people revising history and fabricating/exaggerating this old school hatred to justify and perpetuate the hatred they have today?

Civilizations get strong and conquer lands...it has happened all over the world.

Even my country.

For some reason, though, the fucking Arabs can't let that go.

And want to kill innocents in the name of a religion which was probably written on a sunny day by a bored, friendless farmer, just like every other religion.

us and the arabs have had conflicts for centuries, just as any other differing ethnic groups that border one another. however, the zionist regime that has perverted israel is not making things better. Most issues had been resolved and us and arabs were living together in peace until post WWII when the secular zionist regime unjustifiably took control and started their message of hate.

I think there have been running tensions between the Jews and Muslims, similar to the sorts of clashes that Christians had with their Jewish populations (tolerance one decade, persecution the next).

I think the modern, vehement hatred though started toward the end of the First World War. The war dismantled the unifying Ottoman Empire, sliced up the Middle East into colonial chunks, screwing up the borders and humiliating the natives. Resentment began to build up. Then, when a bunch of European Jews started moving into the region and eventually declared their own state, they picked up the bulk of the frustration and anger for colonialism.

^Yeah, today's sort trouble didn't start until the Middle East was colonized.

That's not to say the Middle East was peaceful before that point, though.

Did Muslim states ever kick the Jews out en masse, as various Christian countries did back in the day?

No, they were very tolerant of occupied Jews. Mostly because they knew (unlike Spain) that keeping the Jews would benefit them as far as wealth and scholarship goes

An interesting case study looking at the Medival Jews of Spain which were at various points in history under both Christian and Muslim control.

http://data.ccarnet.org/journal/702dn.pdf

Quote :
"Saba went on to describe some of the differences between Christian and Muslim treatment of Jews, without pretending that he could rank the tolerance of these religions. Other commentators agreed that the two exiles were very different, without one’s being clearly superior. Daily degradations and humiliations were greater under Islam, according to some, whereas forced conversions and expulsions were more likely in Christendom. A number of Sephardim, in other words, refused to give easy answers to questions about Christian or Muslim attitudes toward Judaism, insisting that such judgments could not be made independent of perspective, and, therefore, the two traditions could not be “measured” against each other."

The article also states that the Jews tended to move back and forth between the two regions depending on who was in a more anti-Semitic mood at the time. In other words, it seems to have been in cycles, with tolerance/persecution swinging back and forth.

true, and they DID use their knowledge and skills quite a bit, esp in running affairs of the state, money matter ( ), etc (i am talking about the ottomans).

and then, for some reason, muslims/arabs went through a fucked up philosophical phase, and somehow came to decide that knowledge isn't so great after all.

first ever (astronomical) observatory was made my muslims, but the stupid religious "scholars" had it demolished.

first ever printing press was also made my muslims, and again, the religious "scholars" had it dismantled even before it churned out a single book.

and of course, the muslim world hasn't recovered from those--and thousands other--fatal follies, and in fact, continues on a downward spiral even now.

i don't know wtf is wrong with them. all these religious "scholars", who only succeed in keeping the masses ignorant, illiterate, and backward, should be either slaughtered wholesale, or should be shipped to an island in the pacific, and left there. needless to say, the idiots would never get off it, as any attempt to use science to make a boat/whatever would be frowned upon by the majority as an "innovation", and hence, un-islamic.
