Inspired by the pitching thread and 2000 draft thread, what would be your all time NBA starting 5.

c - Shaquille O'Neal
F - Larry Bird
F - Oscar Robertson
G - Kobe Bryant
G - Michael Jordan

I know a lot of people will argue Wilt instead of Shaq. But keep in mind that Wilt didn't have to play 82 games and there were only 8 other teams in the league. Shaq doen't shoot free throws well but then again Babe Ruth didn't steal bases well.

id rather make a current list

PG-Steve Nash
SG-Kobe Bryant
SF-Carmelo Anthony
PF-Kevin Garnett
C-Amare Stoudamire

I think that would be a "functional" team with the exception being Kobe's willingness to give up shots

his replacement would be LeBron James

Oh we're going all time with this

I'd never have Jordan and Kobe on the same team because you only play with one basketball.

I'd run a 3 guard line up College style with two bigs

Magic
Jordan
Oscar
Garnett
Shaq

[Edited on May 16, 2007 at 3:09 PM. Reason : had Duncan instead of KG, but he would bog down the otherwise up-tempo offense]

Current players:

Duncan
Nowitzki

I think you need a true starting PG

PG - Magic/Cousy/Maravich/Nash
SG - Jordan/Kobe
SF - Robertson/Bird
PF - Kareem/Russell
C - Shaq/Wilt

C-Tom Burleson
PF-Ronnie Shavlik
SF-David Thompson
SG-Rodney Monroe
PG-Chris Corchiani

Todd Fuller, Googs, Chucky Brown, Spud Webb, and Vinny Del Negro are 2nd 5.

[Edited on May 16, 2007 at 3:11 PM. Reason : someone had to do it]

[Edited on May 16, 2007 at 3:21 PM. Reason : second team]

I like my list more and more as I look at it

damn they would be big, and to speed it up if needed, slide out one of the PF/C and move Oscar down and put in a Pippen or Melo type player (not saying they are the same type)

^ Chucky Brown ?

I mean, we all know that Steve Nash makes his team better, amirite? So here, he would just keep making himself better and better in an infinite loop! They'd be unstoppable!

All time::

Hakeem
Bill Russell
Larry
Jordan
J-Kidd

Current

Dwight Howard
Duncan
Lebron
Kobe
Nash

First three off the bench:: Wade, Carmelo, KG

I had to start Nash instead of Wade because of the long range shooting but I hate how he and Kobe would both dominate the ball. I chose Howard to start over KG, because I think KG is a little soft and wanted a true big man next to TD.

^9 years in a row of at least 20 PPG and 10 RBG and 4 Assists for a big man.

Plus he is on a weak team so he faces double-teams and is pressured more than the others.

And he has led the league in rebounding for like 5 years straight too.

with Kareem "The Dream" subbing in regularly for the forwards

Shaq - for inspiring the Burger King "Shaq Paq" meal
Kobe - for being named after Japan's most succulent beef
The Busdriver from the Alltel commercials - 'cause he's takin you to school, kid
Tim Duncan - for being the only guy to ever get ejected for laughing on the bench
and finally....

Kwame Brown - for being the worst 1st ever

^ The current roster he has could work, but Lebron would have to play a point forward type role, and do most of the distributing.

And I don't see what's bad about the all-time roster, other than the fact that Kidd and Pippen probably shouldn't be on there.

my point is with a backcourt of Kobe (shoot first), AI (shoot first), Lebron (Mails in big games)... you're not going to be as successful as you would be if you had players with a team mentality handling the ball.

Not to discount that LeBron is avg. 26-8-8 these playoffs. that is impressive, but with him scoring 14 in the 1st Q last game, then only getting 9 more over the rest of the game... that's kinda shitty. With his speed, power, and jumping ability, there is no reason for him not to be dunking on people 5+ times a game. He really could average 35-10-8 if he played with more intensity.

If you are building a "team"....that might be a pretty good idea.

A team like

Kidd
Jordan
Pippen
Rodman
Shaq

Not the best players at each position, but put together, I'm not sure if this team isn't better than every other team listed.
