Well... not quite falls, more like stumbles to its knees
97 Wrangler, 2.5l manual 100k miles. The problem is that while accelerating it has more power at 75% WOT than it does at 100% WOT. Say I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear with my foot on the floor, if I lift a bit it accelerates quicker. Its really only noticable at over 2800 RPM.
Today I took off the throttle body, cleaned it out, put a new TPS on, checked for anything obvious, and test drove, no change.
The MAP sensor is next on my list, but its around $100. Suggestions? 5/19/2007 9:02:12 PM |

^could be but i doubt it in this case. clogged cats usually aren't noticeable until they are really clogged. it sounds more like a fuel delivery issue to me. i'd start with the fuel filter. 5/19/2007 10:10:32 PM |

it sounds exactly like what I had going on in my old hjeep. part throttle lower revs acceleration was normal. higher loads or revs and the thing was choking. 5/19/2007 10:54:01 PM |

my heep 97 tj 2.5 does the exact same thing. I know it isn't the cat I am thinking it might be an O2 sensor possibly? 5/20/2007 9:06:01 AM |

i changed 3 fuel pumps on my wrangler because it did this exact thing. it had plenty of fuel to just run but if i needed it to go anywhere in a hurry it would stumble and it actually died on me a couple of times. 5/20/2007 10:13:33 AM |

The fuel filter on a TJ is part of the pump assembly, it isn't inline unfortunately. It sounds like it may be the cat, mine acted similar when mine needed replaced. Any CELs? 5/24/2007 3:23:07 PM |

no check engine light, i checked the codes to be sure. I'll try to unbolt the cat and tie it out of the way and see if it makes a difference.
I'm pretty sure its fuel though, because occasionally it'll act like its supposed to. I've already done a general tune up (plugs, wires, rotor) 5/24/2007 5:09:25 PM |

unless you have a way of reconecting your exhaust after you take out your cat your jeep is gonna act pretty weird anyway. My jeep is doing the exact same thing and I just got a new cat so I am pretty sure that isn't it. sumfoo did the 3 fuel pumps fix the problem?? 5/24/2007 9:19:20 PM |

i would start by checking your fuel pressure, to rule out the pump and pressure regulator 5/25/2007 4:34:26 AM |
