Well... not quite falls, more like stumbles to its knees

97 Wrangler, 2.5l manual 100k miles. The problem is that while accelerating it has more power at 75% WOT than it does at 100% WOT. Say I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear with my foot on the floor, if I lift a bit it accelerates quicker. Its really only noticable at over 2800 RPM.

Today I took off the throttle body, cleaned it out, put a new TPS on, checked for anything obvious, and test drove, no change.

The MAP sensor is next on my list, but its around $100. Suggestions?

^could be but i doubt it in this case. clogged cats usually aren't noticeable until they are really clogged. it sounds more like a fuel delivery issue to me. i'd start with the fuel filter.

it sounds exactly like what I had going on in my old hjeep. part throttle lower revs acceleration was normal. higher loads or revs and the thing was choking.

my heep 97 tj 2.5 does the exact same thing. I know it isn't the cat I am thinking it might be an O2 sensor possibly?

i changed 3 fuel pumps on my wrangler because it did this exact thing. it had plenty of fuel to just run but if i needed it to go anywhere in a hurry it would stumble and it actually died on me a couple of times.

The fuel filter on a TJ is part of the pump assembly, it isn't inline unfortunately. It sounds like it may be the cat, mine acted similar when mine needed replaced. Any CELs?

no check engine light, i checked the codes to be sure. I'll try to unbolt the cat and tie it out of the way and see if it makes a difference.

I'm pretty sure its fuel though, because occasionally it'll act like its supposed to. I've already done a general tune up (plugs, wires, rotor)

unless you have a way of reconecting your exhaust after you take out your cat your jeep is gonna act pretty weird anyway. My jeep is doing the exact same thing and I just got a new cat so I am pretty sure that isn't it. sumfoo did the 3 fuel pumps fix the problem??

i would start by checking your fuel pressure, to rule out the pump and pressure regulator
