Quote : | "Bengals' Henry must serve jail time after failed drug test
ESPN.com news services
Updated: May 21, 2007, 12:52 PM ET
Suspended Bengals receiver Chris Henry failed a court-ordered drug test and will have to serve 88 days in jail.
Kenton County (Kentucky) Attorney Garry Edmondson said that Henry tested positive for opiates and he will be forced to serve jail time.
Henry's failed drug test was first reported by WKRC-TV in Cincinnati.
Henry is on probation in Florida. It's unclear whether the reported drug test results will force him to serve jail time there.
The Bengals told ESPN's Bob Holtzman that they expect to release a statement regarding Henry later Monday.
Henry, who has been arrested four times since December 2005, has been suspended for the first eight games of next season for violating the NFL's conduct policies. He spent two days in jail last January after pleading guilty to letting minors drink alcohol in a hotel room he had rented.
Henry received traffic tickets on March 25 for driving with a suspended license, failing to use his turn signal and a seat belt violation. He was allowed to go into a license intervention program to settle the charges.
Henry is permitted to work out at the Bengals' facilities in the offseason and participate in training camp, including preseason games. He won't be allowed to practice with the team when the regular season begins. He will be reinstated after the eighth game if he stays out of trouble.
"I must emphasize to you that this is your last opportunity to salvage your NFL career," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote Henry when he suspended him. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you in that effort."
ESPN.com's John Clayton and The Associated Press contributed to this report." |

Anytime someone fails a drug test for opiates, you have to wonder if the person just had poppy seed muffins/whatever. I mean, seriously, do people still use opiates?
And unlike what some people think, poppy seed food will make you fail a drug test. 5/21/2007 1:33:23 PM |

but we're talking about chris henry
henry, who basically sets NFL records for most arrests...was he more likely to have popped some pills or smoked a blunt with opium on it...or did he accidentally eat a half dozen bagels covered in poppy seeds?

This isn't high school, these are adults, and the coaching has nothing to do with off-field incidents like this. It was bad drafting, the Bengals drafted a lot of players that would have gone rounds earlier if they didn't have character red flags, and now they're paying for it. At least they didn't make the same mistake this year. You're right though.. "Foxy" would keep his players away from the opiates, they might interfere with the steroids.

What do Darrell Reid, Lionel Gates, Brandon Marshall, D'Anthony Batiste, Gerald Senabaugh, Joey Porter, Jerramy Stevens, Charles Shearon, Deshea Townshend, Dominique Byrd, Jonathan Joseph, Dominic Rhodes, Jonathan Babineaux, Ryan Krause, and DeDe Dorsey have in common? They are all NFL players that were arrested in the first 3 months of 2007. JoJo is the only Bengal on the list. 2006 was the year of Bengal arrests, but we are now in a year of balanced NFL-wide lawbreaking.
^^^^ Don't believe everything you read, especially ESPN. No one is an idiot for pointing out the article, but I think believing the ***prosecution*** without proof is naive.
