I just need a recommendation for where to get work done, or at least figure out whether repair is feasible, or to find a new car.
All the other threads go 'hay guyz I have this problem - who do yall recommend I go to' -->'given your description, here's a guess at what's wrong, and here's how to fix it, and garageregular can do that for you' --> 'awesome - thanks!'
Right now, my car's at happy jap's because I had to get it out of the parking lot, and USAA staunchly refuses to ever cover towing from one's residence to a mechanic. They had the courtesy to tell me 'transmissions aren't our strong point, but maybe we can point you in the right direction once we look at your car

Yeah: does anyone on here have a recommendation for a transmission shop? And if you all have any warnings, that'd be nice too

93 automatic celica It's releasing all the transmission fluid at once. Seems to have sprung a leak friday...except I didn't know that right away and drove a TINY bit (was still in the shopping center). I put some in yesterday to see what I could find out, and after ~10oz, nothing (even after i cycled through the gears), but my bf said that with nothing in it, i should put in the whole quart (ended up putting in all but ~6-8...spilled some), and when I put it in reverse, right away, it all spilled out. 5/21/2007 5:07:56 PM |

Rex @ Happy Jap's recommends replacing my transmission since the front seal is shot and my transmission is in bad shape, and says there's something in my engine. I've known I need to get my timing belt replaced.
I'm not feeling right because no one has called me (I specifically requested that they call me with an update yesterday, and they said they would and didn't), and after 'I'm working on your quote right now' he delved right into 'replace your transmission.
Should I even bother trying to get a second opinion? My car might be worth 2K, but dammit, I love my car 5/23/2007 3:05:47 PM |

He'll be as fair if not more so than any other shop around...I don't know what he'd put a used transmission in for, but I know that's most likely the best solution. Rebuilding it will be expensive, and no, he can't do that, nor would he highly recommend having it done. Not unless you REALLY have sentimental attachments to the car.
I would NEVER fault anyone in the end for getting a second opinion on something so expensive. I don't, however, think you could do much better. That should NOT stop you from doing some more homework on the matter if you feel you need or want to.
He gets bogged down fairly often, as it's just him, his son, and one other guy there, so the mistake in not calling you was probably an oversight. 5/23/2007 8:28:36 PM |

Ive always used Roes and Son / Supreme brake. There located downtown. They actually did a transmission swap for my Ford bronco when no one else would even talk to me. There a family owned business that can do almost anything to your car. They go above and beyond to make sure your happy. Ive been using them for years. 5/23/2007 11:16:33 PM |

Ted's transmission on running oak dr (off of westgate, near 70 & 540) is the best transmission shop I know of in the area. 5/27/2007 3:43:45 AM |

Blech. My car is still at happy japs and I need to get it off their lot.
With needing a new transmission AND some engine work, I'm guessing I am better off just junking the car. How does one go about doing that 5/30/2007 10:08:51 AM |

I need a transmission fluid change. I have not gone anywhere up here and I refuse to take it to a quick lube type place.
What transmission place would you take it to? 6/3/2007 7:00:30 AM |

That is where we take all of our trucks, I'm really happy with the service they have given me.

I've also had work done there. No complaints about the quality, but the service wasn't as good as Rose and Son.6/3/2007 8:08:17 AM |
