I'm going into my senior year and am thinking about going into Biostatistics for graduate school. I'm looking for another class to take this coming fall semester and was looking at these two classes. By the course description, ST 511 seems to be exactly what I've done in my prior statistics courses and it is a prerequisite for ST512. Does anybody know if you can just go straight into 512 without 511. I've contacted my advisor but he still hasn't gotten back to me. Also, I was looking in the graduate handbook it says the Statistics course requirements is ST512R. Is this the same thing as ST512. Thanks.

They probably will not let you bypass ST511 even more so because you're still an undergraduate. We had graduate students trying to take higher level classes in that department and they were pretty strict. It will likely be much more difficult and mathmatically based then the undergraduate course(s) even though they have very similar course descriptions.

Also i'm not 100% sure about this but I'm fairly certain that you will be charged at the graduate tuition rate for that stat class, which for one 3 hour course is over 1200 dollars in comparison to the typical 600 dollars for an undergraduate course.

It will look really good on a grad school application if you take either 511 or 512 and do well.

even if you are taking it for honors credit? I don't really see why they would charge you more then.

^ yep you're right. I was reading where it said PBS students have to pay the graduate level rate for a 500 level.

Plus the grading in grad school is much more student friendly.
