We all know hockey doesn't get great television ratings. You can't read a single hockey related thread on these boards without getting trolled about it. But lowest ever on network television? That's a bit of an exaggeration.

the best part is NBC cut off a playoff overtime game that led to a team going to the finals in order to cover The Preakness Pre-Game (way before the actual race). That should show you its popularity.

That was my first post in this thread. The fact is there is an exaggeration on here as to how low the ratings are. I don't think any realistic hockey fan is going to argue that. It is a more regional sport, and people are much more dedicated to their local broadcasts, including myself to a certain extent. I didn't miss a single FSN South Canes broadcast all season, but even being a die-hard hockey fan occasionally forgot about NBC and VS. broadcasts. And my point from the previous thread still stands as to the ratings being fantastic if you add Canada into the mix.

There are a shit ton more casual NBA fans than casual NHL fans.

The NHL is in an interesting position because they have a die-hard fan base unlike any other of the major sports. They still haven't figured out how to attract the casual fan though (since the glowing puck days lol). Hence why after the lockout they came back stronger than ever in terms of attendance.

^Ive met plenty of people outside of TWW, I lived on-campus even in suites, the second year with guys who would get together and drink beer/eat chips every time a college b-ball, college football, or nfl game came on. None of them even gave a shit about the NBA.

And no, my mom is from North Wilkesboro, NC and my dad from Shelby, NC. My family has been in North Carolina since the 1600s.

nope, never watched college hockey. Most of the guys in the suite did not care about hockey or the nba; except for one from rochester. My roomate, him and I were the big hockey watchers.
