Long story short, my engagement ring was on the dashboard, after driving around for a while, it falls into the defroster on the dash. It fell down the center... tube, tunnel, whatever you call it. First question is... is it even possible for me to get the ring out? If so... how? It's in a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer if that is even helpful. And yes, I know for sure it is down there, because I saw it fall. I'm just hoping that it's not lost forever in the friggin vent.
And yes, I know I'm an idiot for putting it up there and all of that related stuff. 5/28/2007 11:15:56 PM |

you should go to the dealer, tell them the story and make sure you CRY YOUR EYES OUT to them. they might just do it for free.
i say dealer because they have the most experience taking apart the dashes on those im sure 5/28/2007 11:26:54 PM |

those dashes are a big pain in the ass to take down to the hvac.
it is possible to get it out, but be prepared to pay a decent amount. 5/28/2007 11:33:52 PM |

By a lot of money how much are we talking? <$500 $500-$800 >$800
If it's $800 or more, I guess I'm just going to make him keep the car forever. 5/28/2007 11:39:54 PM |

^^true that, but these are more so than others... i used to cringe anytime i had to even touch an envoy dash.
^i'd say 500 would be a good estimate. an experienced dealer tech should be able to do it in half a day or so.

luckily for you, the entire hvac assembly comes out the front, so the dash doesnt have o come apart, i just did a blend door actuator on a 02 envoy a few months back, i could do it for $75-$150 depending on how deep I have to go into it, and its going to take 2-4 hours, i probably won't be able to get to it until the end of the week though 5/29/2007 1:38:05 AM |

I'd find someone you can trust to do this, so they don't "pretend" they couldn't find it. 5/29/2007 1:12:30 PM |

whats the value on the ring vs. labor vs. selling car+ring. Just tell people it's part of the new pirates movie promotion car where they hid a valuable loot (ring) somewhere in the air ducts... lol 5/29/2007 1:14:47 PM |
