I teach Foods and Nutrition and have perfected some recipes for baked goods during a school bake sale. I need money for the summer since I'm taking classes all day and haven't had any luck finding a job....so, I don't know if anyone would be interested in this on a small scale but I figure I'd offer my talents and see what happens.
I can make some WONDERFUL and DELICIOUS Pecan pies Chocolate meringue pies Red velvet cake Pineapple 7-up cake Best Chocolate Cake Ever(Grandmother's Recipe) Hershey Bar Cake Neiman Marcus Bars Key Lime Pie Philidelphia Cream Cheese Marbled brownies Various cookies(snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, etc.)
Most of the items are made from scratch but some use a box of cake mix for a starter. Also, I just listed the stuff I have made extensively. If there is something you want me to try, let me know what it is and we will see. I hand pipe the cupcake decorations, by the way.
As for prices, I know pretty much what each costs to make so PM for a price. 5/29/2007 10:26:55 PM |

or you can just list them here and save the trouble of answering various pm's
and also let everyone know what the prices are 5/29/2007 11:36:08 PM |

I've been out of town! I will list prices but I want to remind everyone that my treats are made from scratch and comparing the price to what you spent at the grocery store last week will mean nothing to me because my stuff doesn't taste like plastic.
Pecan pies - $8 (pecans are expensive!) Chocolate meringue pies - $7 Red velvet cake - $15 (these cost $12 to make) Pineapple 7-up cake - $10 Best Chocolate Cake Ever(Grandmother's Recipe) - $8 Hershey Bar Cake - $15 (Uses 6 Hershey bars...another expensive one to make) Neiman Marcus Bars - $6 for a dozen post-it note sized. Key Lime Pie - $7 Philidelphia Cream Cheese Marbled brownies - $6 for a dozen post-it note sized. Various cookies(snickerdoodles, chocolate chip, etc.) DEPENDS!
And just a reminder...I will work with you if you want something like a birthday cake or cupcakes with decorator tip icing...but I am not a cake decorator and I'm not a magician but I will try my best to get what you need. 6/3/2007 11:41:54 AM |

^^They are really yummy and interestingly enough, they are "pretty"....brownies usually look like square turds...heh
^Depends on how many you order... It's hard to JUST make a dozen cookies because one batch is like...3-4 dozen cookies....and I don't need 30 chocolate chip cookies! How many were you thinking?? 6/4/2007 12:24:30 AM |

I work with the person and see what they offer and what they want done and we can go from there. I promise my cakes are as yummy as the homemade icing an just as pretty as I can make them.
The only thing I struggle with is getting the basecoat to be completely flat and smooth but most of the time that isn't even an issue because it's covered with other icing. 6/19/2007 11:52:51 PM |

^ i really dont think you should even negotiate prices. if anything, you should make flyers, and post on craigslist, too and i'm sure you'd have a LOT of people wanting to buy your bakes goods. if you live in/near a complex, you should put flyers on the cork board by the mailboxes. just an idea. baking costs money and is time consuming, and a mess, and your prices are reasonable.

Icing is much more fun for 2 year olds to stick their hands in.
And fondant is lame anyhow..tastes like crap and it's mostly made with cookie cutters...boring imo.

Damn, if I lived in the US, I would have ordered one item of each from that list you posted BY NOW
BTW, what are these:
Red velvet cake (ok i looked it up, but aside from the red food coloring, what's unique to it?) Neiman Marcus bars (i thought Neiman Marcus was a retailer of luxury items?) Pineapple 7-up cake (is there 7-up in it? i have heard of pineapple upside down cake, but not this)
Thanks, and good luck!

It originally got its red color from a chemical reaction between early forms of processed cocoa, and baking soda. But now, red dye, or sometimes beets are used to color it since the type o cocoa used way back when gives it kind of a soapy taste.

Rolled fondant is great to work with if you're more concerned about the appearence of the cake...like in wedding cakes, of which, ive done several. For a kids cake though, nothing beats a good buttercream

First of all, thank you for the well wishes! Umm Red Velvet cake is a moist red cake with a very sweet cream cheese and nut icing. The icing is very thick. The cake itself is good when it is served room temperature or when cold. It is a sweet, sweet cake! And pretty much what was said above..
Neiman Marcus Bars are an internet hoax recipe....some forward was going around saying that a lady was charged $100 for the recipe, which is not true, but they are worth $100 to me...they are tres yummy. They too have cream cheese on top with nuts (or without...they are good either way) and the base is buttery cake with chocolate. MY FAVORITE bar "cookie".
Pineapple 7-Up cake is made with 7-Up but instead of the icing like pineapple upside down cake, it has a crushed pineapple and coconut filling and the top is covered with the same filling and it drips down the sides of this three layer monster
I wish I had pictures....hmm, maybe soon.6/21/2007 7:21:36 PM |
