My friend is visiting from CA week of 6/12 to 6/19. Any ideas on where to take her? Anything interesting going on in Raleigh or within a half days driving distance? The cheaper the better too. 5/30/2007 12:32:07 PM |

The beach. Might be a nice change for them to have water temps over 50 degrees.

Be sure to take them to eat at some of the more famous local eateries (i.e. Char-Grill, Mitch's, etc.) 5/31/2007 5:15:30 PM |

But Cook Out isn't local. Maybe it's just a North Carolina thing, in which case I could see taking an out-of-stater there, but it's not local to Raleigh.
And while Cook Out does have damn good milkshakes, and is quality in general, for burgers it doesn't even come close to Char-Grill.

Why would one take a californian to cook out when there is In 'n out over there which is 10x better?

If you are looking for something a little nicer for dinner, try Another Thyme in Durham. It is superb! 6/1/2007 2:49:05 PM |

Bud Light Downtown Live on Saturday in Raleigh - Everclear. Get em drunk Go somewhere downtown for dinner, or around there - Lilly's pizza in Five Points is dank and real casual. Then there's everything on Glenwood South, I'd suggest Mellow Mushroom for fun and Second Empire for expensive and nice. 6/1/2007 2:57:47 PM |

The transportation museum in Spencer. It's called a transportation museum, but it's really a local train museum with a Conestoga and an old postal carrier vehicle. 6/1/2007 3:01:38 PM |

I think the thing to do is show off NC's variety. Do like one day in the mountains really hiking or just walking nature trails & driving to scenic overlooks or a picnic. Do another day or two in cities like Charlotte, or Raleigh with music/bars or going around downtown (or the planetarium/museums in chapel hill are pretty cheap if they are into that sorta thing), and another day at the beach where you can show ‘em Wilmington or show them the place that lets us say first in flight. 6/1/2007 8:32:17 PM |
