so i have the linksys wrt54g router and i installed netgear wireless cards into 2 computers. the computers are 10 ft max away from teh router in other rooms. why is it giving a low signal? do they really not communicate well between brands? i kinda thought this shit was relatively similar.

the cards are just standard 'g' wireless cards right? (as is the router?) then that's odd...

in other rooms? so both computers are on the other side of a wall from the router?

as ^ said...if you have a wall between them, you have to take into consideration two things - wall thickness/material and the angle...remember that the angle can cause the physical interference to be many times the actual thickness of the wall...also, materials like steel and cinder block (i think) can seriously degrade your signal compared to wood/drywall

i'm having a router related issue myself... (probably just the location but I'll be testing that later today)

i have all the required ports forwarded and such, get good ping and a good signal (according to windows) but whenever I play BF 2142 i get intermitten "connection problems" and very bad lag spikes....

First -- http://www.dd-wrt.com/

Second -- what's the layout of your building? I'm in Wolf Village with the same router, and can get a strong signal all through the apartment, and at least a low signal 2 floors down.
