I just build a new PC with a DVD burner and I was wondering what is the best burning software to use with it. Free would be good, but I would be willing to purchase software if it is good. Thanks for any help.

are you looking for burning software or authoring software? There is a difference and though many do both they aren't necessarily great at both.

im surprised nobody has mentioned Nero yet. I don't know if you can get the most current version free, but go to http://www.oldversion.com and I think they have some older versions. I would pay for a new/recent copy of it though, its worth it.

as soon as cdburner xp releases v4, i'd go with that...frankly, v3.x was just as good as nero (to me), but they're updating the features and should be releasing soon

ISO recorder for isos.

Just drag and drop for data.

As far as pay software goes, I still like nero.

I'm looking for something for DVD authoring. I would kill a baby for something that could automatically put .movs onto a DVD without my having to convert it beforehand, too. Any suggestions?

assuming you're in windows, if you have a dvd authoring tool that can use directshow filters, go grab quicktime alternative. It will let any directshow based software (windows media player, encoder, moviemaker) use .movs just like they were any other video format.
