I sold my 1994 Alfa Romeo Spider from college (too small for all the military moving) and bought a 1988 RX-7 vert. That was stolen 3 months later and that's when I got my 1987 944 Turbo (10.3k original miles when I bought it) that lasted me until 2 weeks ago when I bought my first post-grad car - a 2003 M3 vert

My 1994 Cavalier died 10 months after I graduated so I bought a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt in January of 2006.

i bought an 02 acura rsx the fall after i graduated high school.

i almost bought a lexus is350 about 2 months ago, but decided to purchase a house instead.

so, later this year, ill a homeowner.

(plus after really putting thought into it, it didnt make a damn bit of sense to dump more money into a car when i really dont use it all that much, and finally finished paying mine off like 2 years ago.. and it runs like a champ and only like 70k miles.... (most of which highway) it's funny the motivation it takes to do the right thing...)

Technically first after graduation: 1982 Malibu. $800 cash. September 2002. Mainly b/c I was broke and the first job I had after graduation was basically the part-time job I had during school, just with closer to 40hrs/wk.

Once I got my first "real" job and eventually got tired of no A/C and no power in the Malibu: 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII. October 2004.

1990 Miata

with a built motor and FMII turbo setup (close to 300 hp in a 2200 lb car)
torsen rear end out of a later 1.8L car
suspension work
fairly nice stereo
etc

kept it about a year, bought a comptech supercharged & aftercooled 2001 S2000. Also had Comptech cat-back and about $5000 worth of wheels and tires (that were on it when I bought it, thank God). had nice stereo with JL sub in trunk.

for a while there, I had a Wrangler (YJ), Miata, and S2000. I finally pared the collection down to the S2000, and drove it for about a year and a half or a little more.

found out I had a baby on the way, so needed to get something with a backseat...

so I bought an '01 BMW 330ci.

It had the sport package, 5 spd, and Harmon Kardon stereo (AWESOME factory stereo). I think I only kept it about 3 months...it was, in some ways, the best overall car I've ever owned. It wasn't great at anything, but it was pretty good at everything...but I was getting bored and needed to inject some testosterone back into my diet. I wanted something waaaay fast, harder edged, and with a warranty so I wouldn't be scared to track the breath out of it.

So I bought this '06 Evo IX. Fantastic, killer automobile.

but then I got nailed with a $1007/month child support bill. She might be cool and give the half of it that is totally not needed back to me, but it hasn't happened yet and I know I can never count on it...So now it's up for sale.

Planning on getting an early Bronco or FJ-40 Land Cruiser next...and another sportbike.

'05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

Got it for a steal -- it was the last '05 on a lot full of '06s, and they almost paid me to take it. The color didn't hurt in making my decision Paid it off in full 2 months ago

If a house counts, I got that too. Not paid in full just yet

1999 prelude (type s) which was a HORRIBLE decision and sucked - sold it about 3 months later

2000 S2000 (silverstone, stock) - will sell this next spring - as much as I <3 the car, I can't WAIT to sell it, if I could tomorrow, I would.

Buying a cheaper car after that as I'm planning on keeping that for about a year and a half and then hopefully relocating to NYC - so I'm not bothered about buying something that will last 5-10 years but that I'll be paying for 3-5 on, screw that mess.

a house

i was given a 2003 toyota 4runner new for college graduation/birthday, but 2 years early (i really needed a new vehicle then).

after getting a job and having a commute, i traded it in last summer for a 2006 honda civic.

i <3 both cars, but the civic is better on emissions and gas. if/when they have a hybrid 4runner i'll be all over it.

My parents also gave me a new honda for graduation. While I was tempted to buy a really nice car im gonna run the free one until major problems happen or the wheels fall off. It will be nice to beef up retirement savings even more and not blow money on an expensive car that is for the large part just a status symbol.

^^ i used to think a car was a means to an end and just a way to get from point a to point b

but to me a car is more than a status symbol, i spend a lot of my life in a car, so it's important that it be comfortable, fast, and have the amenities i want.

^^^ er... the highlander is based on the camry, it's not in any way, shape, or form, a "version of the 4runner"

but if your point is that there's an available hybrid crossover suv, then yeah.

I haven't gotten a new one yet, but thats b/c I'm in NYC and it would be a dumb financial move.

However when I leave NYC I want to get an S2000

Ya know they never sold a Type S version of the Prelude in the US. And why'd it suck. My family's had a '98 Prelude since new and its been a fantastic car, except for a 5th gear synchro that went bad.

from my understanding, 1999-2001 there were s and sh - i had a 96 si before, but thats not the point. I could be wrong though, only had the car for like, 8 weeks. I've been wrong before!

my main point was that it was a POS and sucked and was a horrid decision.

and I <3 my S2000 - lol perhaps we'll trade wehn you move to nc, i'm planning on moving to NYC and selling the S either right at or before (depending on timing) - and by trade I mean buy

I got a 2004 Ford Focus as my graduation gift... actually, I only got half of it, and left over college funds bought the other half, which sucks b/c I didnt get any say in what I got
I'm kinda wanting a hybrid, but I know it probably wouldnt be worth it to sell my car and have car payments for one.

Very few people nowadays want an SUV for any of the reasons why it would be important to make that distinction. So yeah, my point was that it was an SUV that is Toyota and a hybrid.

yeah that's great. my point is that when/if they have a 4runner hybrid, 4runner and 4runner only, then i will get one. the highlander is nothing like the 4runner beyond the fact that they're both toyotas.

and car-based frame =/= SUV imo. a SUV is a truck and car =/= truck.

i'm not going to tow a boat or go offroad in a highlander.

^^most people that actually want a 4Runner want a real SUV, not some pussified Car-UV, like the Highlander. There's a huge difference.

Neither VW, or any car manufacturer selling in the US, makes a car with a V4. Don't ppl in here at least know what they drive?!

Highlander is a glorified station wagon, and is a comfortable ride. however, i'm in the habit of buying used cars, and if i saw a good deal on a Highlander while in the market for a car, i'd get it.

there is nothing sold in America with a V4 (save 3 motorcycles that i can think of). hell, there isn't much sold anywhere with a V4.

and "crossover SUVs" like the Highlander are just tall cars. There is a fundamental difference between them and even a moderately sally, yet still truck-based SUV like a 4-Runner.

I'm the other extreme...I wish they made more SUVs without limp-wristed IFS. Jeep would have it right, except the solid axles (and sometimes the transmissions) they use are limp-wristed half the time, too.

i can not believe someone said their engine had a V4 haha what a noob.

Duke a friend of mine has a new Rubicon Jeep and noticed that his engine was being very sluggish and nearly stalling on gear changes. He takes it in and is told that water in his engine. Only 4 of his cylinders are working. Furthermore since it was apparent he took his jeep off roading from the mud under the hood his engine warranty is voided. WTF a jeep was originally engineered for driving diverse terrain. I guess even the Jeep is transforming into a giant mommy wagon.

^^ nah, that's just the warranty game. you gotta be more smooth than that...take the plugs out, turn the engine, and get the water out...they'll prob still figure it out, but at least try. and clean the mud off before you take it in for warranty work. damn.

no manufacturer i know of is gonna cover offroading...mitsubishi has voided tons of warranties on Evos by snooping around and catching people doing autocrosses and track days. Hell, I think it was Subaru who used to offer an SCCA membership with the purchase of I guess a WRX or STi, but then they'd void your warranty if they caught you doing any SCCA stuff.

they'll void your warranty for any variety of stupid modifications that don't really hurt anything. For example, Mitsubishi generally is ok with a cat-back exhaust, but if you remove the catalytic converter or install an aftermarket downpipe, they'll void the warranty. It's completely retarded, and you can fight it--but while the law is often on your side, precedence is not and you will likely lose.
